  3. In the U.S., you can withdraw at 55. Health insurance waits until 65

In the U.S., you can withdraw from a 401(k) penalty-free starting at 55. But Medicare doesn't begin until 65. Who pays during that 10-year gap?

  4. CMS is ending the Medicare Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration on December 31. The program paid a monthly subsidy toward standalone drug plan premiums, $15 per member in 2025 and $10 in 2026, and capped how far those premiums could rise year over year. Without it, the increases land in 2027 plan pricing.

National Campaign for Justice has a letter to Congress asking them to preserve it.

Private Healthcare Providers are simply #Leeches and #Unethical ones at that.

That is not to say that the health workers they employ share the same social guilt. I’d wager most workers do in fact care for patients unlike their #Grifting corporate employers and the #Usurious #Insurance companies.

Making a #Living from providing healthcare services is socially responsible.

What I want to know is how on earth did a mafia Don, a religious cult, a white nationalist movement and a bunch of #TechBro billionaires take over our freaking US government including #SCOTUS⁉️ An assortment of moronic chaos monkeys they are…bent on 1) self enrichment, grift and corruption; 2) accelerating armageddon and the end of the world; 3) purging the country of all non-white races and non Christian religions; and, 4) ensuring the rule and continuing enrichment of tech founders, VCs and investors. 23. Economic Downturns Cut Lives Short—But Only If You’re Poor & American.
A new study shows that recessions slash life expectancy for less-educated Americans—yet another sign of how brutal U.S. inequality is compared to Northern Europe, where strong social safety nets protect people from economic shocks.

While Denmark, Norway, and Sweden use universal healthcare, robust unemployment benefits, and proactive welfare policies to shield their citizens, the U.S. leaves its most vulnerable to suffer. The result? A life expectancy gap that widens with every crisis.

  26. CW: Medical politics - having to pay for useless appointments

The #GrattanInstitute in #Australia has recently released a report recommending #Medicare be updated as it no longer serves patients or medical professionals. This probably surprises no-one, particularly people with #ChronicIllness and in my opinion is well overdue.

Something that I think needs a lot of thought however is the current situation where patients are still expected to pay for services that provide zero value or in some cases cause harm. Too often I have had absolutely useless appointments with #Doctors who are ill informed on my disease (#MyalgicEncephalomyelitis) and can provide no benefit or recommendation for my illness yet I am still expected to attend these appointments/referrals and pay for them.

The current system is stacked against patients struggling not only with chronic disease but also financially, adding further to their costs and providing no incentive for doctors to update their knowledge since they'll get paid anyway. Surely the system should do the opposite and encourage doctors to keep up to date and adopt and/or develop best practice if they expect to be reimbursed for their knowledge.
