Pati tikko sapratu šo un turpmāk darīšu, bet ieteikumos redzējusi neesmu. Draudziņiem arī šo varu ieteikt, lai mēs mazāk atgrūtinātu viens otru ar nevajadzīgo (atbildes sarunās) un vairāk ar vajadzīgo (galvenie tūtas).

If you post a long thread, you can mark post 2 and onwards as ‘unlisted’ so you’re not injecting multiple posts into the timeline of your followers #psa #mastadontips

Some tips for new Mastadon people: You need to follow people and follow hashtags.

To find people, it takes work but it is worth the effort. A great source for daily recommendations is @FediFollows. I also recommend following #followfriday for more.

Hashtags are the other secret to a good timeline. Search for them and follow as many as you want. This is also a great way to find people.

Follow a lot of people and hashtags - you can always unfollow later!

So, if you follow me, but haven't posted on your current instance (or a former one), and don't have an introduction -- don't expect me to follow back (unless I know you from the birdsite or FB or IRL). A short blurb, a profile pic -- something to clue me in on what you're about -- would be appreciated. I've already had one interaction with an account I recognized as a birdsite troll -- and that was enough! Being an activist attracts paid trolls and infiltraitors. We should be cautious about who we "friend".

Migrating from Twitter to Mastodon seems to be popular these days, but a lot of people get hung up on a few of its technical details. I wrote this to help explain to your tech-illiterate Aunt Kathy that Mastodon isn't really that hard.

So, here's a thing: looks like you can @ a post to a non-follower with visibility set to "followers only" and that person WILL see the post.

Note: such a message doesn't show up in the @'ed person's Home feed but IS in Notifications/Mentions and will behave as any other mention.

This overcomes a limitation in twitter: people with private accounts couldn't @ a non-follower - well you could, but they wouldn't see it. The choice was to go public or not communicate.

Hello friends. New refugee from Bird app. Tried a few times to add a photo to a post, but darn it, it didn’t work. On my iPhone, it seems to load most of the way, stops, waits, then tells me it failed. Thoughts from y’all pachyderms?

@SueC when you view by the hashtag, look for a icon that looks like you're adding a person to follow. Now that hashtag will appear in your home follows. #mastadontips

The Toot! iOS app (@tootapp) for #mastodon has a feature that you can pin any server’s local timeline to your navigation bar!

I can finally read #hachyderm timeline and connect with interesting people, without managing several accounts! Yeah, you do not need an account to do this!🤯

The app is not free, but worth the money! The small price helps it to be financially sustainable!

Question for those more experienced on mastadon. I've read up on "verification" here. I know it's not like on twitter etc. My question though is, would adding the html to a substack post of mine, on MY substack, would that suffice or would I need a blog like WordPress etc to do it? (I'm more curious as I don't even know if I "want" to "get verified" (I know it's more verifying the link vs verifying identity like on twt))
