  1. excellent firsthand account about the fabled Brazilian Macintosh 512k clone that never was and how it outperformed the eventual licensed product still years later in 1992: merlintec.com/lsi/mac512.html

  2. @tewha @KingShawn Switcher was Apple's first attempt to multitasking on the Mac. No mention of what version of the Macintosh OS was required. Only requirements mentioned is a Macintosh 512K or Macintosh XL. The Macintosh Switcher Construction Kit was published in 1985. Imagine running this on a 2 floppy drive system.

  3. @tewha @KingShawn If you were real geeky and wanted to get on the online world MacTerminal was an early favorite. I eventually switched to Zterm.

  4. @tewha @KingShawn Back in the day printing was normal. My Macintosh was bundled with an Imagewriter printer. The manual made me scratch my head because there was instructions involving dip switches. That was all Apple II stuff. With the Mac you just plugged it in and printed. No need to flip switches to set the font.

I had the scanner add-on. I would scan something and then use special ink cartridge to create an iron-on image for putting on t-shirts.

  5. @tewha @KingShawn And I found the old Mac manuals. One a bookshelf that I looked over 20 times today. Still looking for more of the old floppies.

The manual that came with the Macintosh. Brings back memories.

All manuals except for MacPaint and Switcher are spiral bound. Most have bookmarks built into the covers.

I'm not sure but the skinny box probably held the Mac mouse.

The keyboard box and the original Mac keyboard. I didn't know I still had it.

MacDraw and MacProject Note that they came with cassettes and I never broke the plastic on them. Have the included inventory sheets and a buyer feedback card. The MacDraw floppies are in the box. I don't know why I bought MacProject, just starved for Mac software I guess.

  7. @tewha @KingShawn Up into the attic for more Apple stuff. Unfortunately I don't remember where I put the original manuals. I keep misplacing them and eventual find them when I do a major cleanup of the house.

Original Apple Macintosh Box. My housemates always wanted me to throw it away even though they never saw it.

  8. If you’re enjoying your memories of the early Macintosh at the moment, you may enjoy the TV show Halt and Catch Fire. Drama set about 1983 or so. I loved it. #macintosh40th #macintosh

  9. @tewha @KingShawn Last for today, unless I get adventurous, the original Mac travel bag. Still in great shape. I did use it to carry my Fat Mac/Mac512Ke/MacPlus around. Note the compartments for the mouse, keyboard and other accessories.

  10. My first Mac WON’T DIE! I’m starting to worry! #Mac40th

(That’s an app I made for my artist grandmother when her vision worsened and she could no longer paint, nor use computers. File management was just a “sketchbook”: flip pages with those forward/back thumbnails until you get to a blank one. I hid my old PowerBook G3 under her TV and gave her a Wacom tablet to stand back and paint big—for me to print later.)

  11. I coded my own 40th birthday card for my Mac Plus in C - the goal is to make it work on a Mac 128 eventually!
