A while ago I upgraded my old #netbook running #op25 from #LMDE5 to #LMDE6 - I had to recompile OP25 and a couple of other small things to get it working.
But it has never worked as well as it did with LMDE5, so today I've decided to wipe the whole thing, and start over with LMDE5
I don't really need it connected to the internet, but was thinking about setting up streaming. I think it might be too slow do that correctly. -

#Updating #Upgrading #LinuxMint from 21.3 to 22
One machine done, no problems (That machine is running #Mate and I've already seen some bugs that were in 21.0-21.3 fixed)I'm working on upgrading a #Cinnamon machine, I've noticed a few packages are a bit different, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that.
I also upgraded a really old machine from #LMDE5 to #LMDE6 that didn't go quite as well, but was easy enough to fix.
I have 4 more machines to work on too

Having a problem with FediStar
@fedistar I'm having problems launching the app, we're getting a shared library issue on LMDE
System info is in the pic, I tried launching from the terminal when choosing from the menu did nothing. Installation was from the DEB installer, though I've previously tried using the APPIMAGE with no better luck.
((this is a repost as my old blog/Friendica died before I could continue the thread))

You could of course try #linuxmint. It is based on #Ubuntu but snaps are disabled by default and Flatpack support is there out of the box.
If you would like to ditch #ubuntu entire you could also use #LMDE5. Basically a very similar #linuxMint experience but based on #Debian.

According to the German Wikipedia page, #LMDE5 was originally shipped with Cinnamon 5.2.7. So the Mint specific software is apparently updated on a regular basis. 🙂

Regarding a potential switch from regular Mint to #LMDE I feared that this would be the case. But since the code base in the background is different it does make sense to a certain degree.
Thank you both for your answers to my questions!

LMDE 5 Elsie ist richtig gut. Die brauchen Ubuntu gar nicht (mehr) als Unterbau, finde ich.

@Coyote @harsh @GirthyChode I am also really interested in #BSD and plan to do more with #OpenBSD and #netBSD.
I am also not fond of #systemd, so plan on exploring other options. I do use and like #voidlinux.
I do feel like #LinuxMint #Debian Edition #LMDE5 is a good start for beginners and I plan to use that to introduce more advanced concepts and other options.
Feel free to disagree and I am open to recommendations and different perspectives.

First day using the #corebootbook with #LMDE5. I am traveling with it and connected to wifi at another location other than my home or office.
So far #LinuxMint #Debian Edition 5 is working fine. I am writing down ideas for simple "how to" style videos.
Just to clarify, I am not a Linux Mint or Debian fanboy, but I think it is a useful place for people to start and build skills.

#corebootbook update:
I successfully installed #LinuxMint #Debian Edition 5 on it. The installer still crashed at a certain point, like with LMDE4, but I found a way to work around that and did a successful installation of #LMDE5 on the Dell Chromebook 11 laptop.
