Finding out the Hard way that, although Fedistar lets you Bookmark stuff, it doesn't actually let you access your stack of Bookmarks 🤦 .
I've tried every menu, my avatar thumbnail both Left & Right clicks but nope, no Bookmarks.
No, they're not hiding in the well hidden Lists option.
Time to find a different PC app unless someone knows a way to get to the Bookmarks?

Weil sich die Timeline nicht aktualisiert, hatte ich zuerst das #cli Programm #tut in Verdacht. Doch bei zwei anderen Konten war alles in Ordnung. Also die #GUI Software #fedistar gestartet. Auch hier dasselbe Bild, der Stream dieser Instanz behielt den Status von direkt nach dem Start. Keine Ahnung, was man als #Admin in der #Mastodon Software selbst verkehrt einstellen kann, aber hier bei todon.nl ist irgendwie der Wurm drin.

I just got "Fedistar" on my laptop, as I use several accounts. (yes I know I can use containers in Firefox to access different accounts on the same instance :ablobcatwink: ) I have no idea if I will use it much, but it looked nice to give it a try. For me, it would be a bit easier to use I guess, if the horizontal scrollbar would be a bit wider, so my silly eye-hand coordination would find it easier to use with the mouse...
Anyone ever used Fedistar? Found any pros/cons?

Been using Fedistar for a few days now. It does a lot right, but it is not good at displaying threads.
When I click on a post in Sengi, it (usually) shows me the whole thread. Fedistar sometimes does that, but usually it just shows me the post, without any replies, or the post that it's replying *to*. Sengi fails sometimes, but it's much more reliable.
I also really wish Fedistar would tag bot accounts and visually indicate whether a post has replies, like Sengi does.

OK, Sengi on Manjaro has officially gone wonky, so trying out some other desktop apps.

In The State of Formatting on Mastodon, I break down the current experiences people have with Mastodon software when receiving posts formatted with Markdown depending on the formatting they're receiving and the applications used to view the formatting.
We still have a ways to go but things are getting better.

Ich bin ein alter #Tweetdeck Fan, weil ich stets mit unterschiedlichen Konten unterwegs bin und es vorziehe, diese gleichzeitig im Blick zu haben. #fedistar kann dies nun für verschiedene Anwendungen im #Fediverse, was ich sehr praktisch finde. Letztlich finde ich direkt im Browser immer noch am einfachsten. Wozu sollte ich mir auf dem PC dafür extra eine "Webapp" installieren? Das ist in meinen Augen sinnfrei. Ich neige ja eher dazu, das Konsolenprogramm #tut zu nutzen. -

I have been testing the software #fedistar with #Arch #Linux for some time, which allows multiple accounts in the #Fediverse to be displayed parallel. After a few updates, it is now quite usable. The language selector still needs some optimization. But when I wanted to post pictures, however, I realized that I could not create any "alt" text for them. My search was at least unsuccessful. So I have returned to the web interface for now.

Unter #Arch #Linux teste ich seit einiger Zeit die Software #fedistar, mit der sich mehrere Konten im #Fediverse parallel anzeigen lassen. Nach ein paar Updates ist sie inzwischen recht gut nutzbar. Der Sprach-Wähler braucht noch Optimierungen. Als ich jetzt Bilder posten wollte, stellte ich jedoch fest, dass ich keinen "alt"-Text dazu erstellen konnte. Meine Suche blieb zumindest erfolglos. Insofern bin ich vorerst wieder zur Weboberfläche zurückgekehrt.

Future of my Asahi Linux set up
So, having some problems, nothing major, and they might be of my own doing, at least as far as things not working right.
As to what I can do with it, that's a bigger problem, and not #AsahiLinux 's fault. I do wonder why there's so little support for ARM on Linux. I mean there's not that many devices out there, but it is growing, heck I think Tuxedo is bringing one out.Ideally any Linux system I use would be running only native software and nothing Electron, but that's rather unrealistic. Still, things are really bad over here, no DropBox at all, ditto for #sengiapp and #fedistar , Telegram and Signal are via Flatpaks and Snaps IIRC, while still more is thanks to Copr. I can switch to MacOS, but that's clunky and a bit of a pain to do.
I will be redoing things, using Gnome as the system as the other choice, KDE I don't like. Well, I don't like either, I tried Gnome back when 40 was new, and it felt more like Android or IOS than a desktop OS, while KDE I find too hard to figure things out, so many options, things in so many places. Mind you Wayland only makes things worse, many things handled by X11, have to be handled by the DE, and I've inflicted Cosmic on m'self of course. I suppose I should give Gnome a shot, and if'n I don't like that, Cosmic again on a system that is purer than this mess.Failing that, not sure what I'm going to do. I will be installing Fedora on the Craptop to try the X64 version, after all Asahi is based on it, and I do like Asahi. After that... Dunno, maybe fix my old computer, or maybe by a tiny system, and run either Fedora or Mint:DE on it.

I'm trying out the Fedistar masto desktop app for Linux.
I like the multi-column layout, but I hate that I can't paste from clipboard.
(Edit: It also doesn't support markdown for *italics* or _italics_ or **bold**. Seriously??)
So far, the single-column web-based Elk (alpha) is my favourite.

Testing out #Fedistar. I really missed the Tweetdeck-style application in a desktop app with multiple account support. Simple, but decent so far.

Asahi Linux Cinnamon anyone?
Did I mention that I kinda dislike KDE? I don't hate it, but... Well, gotta have my Cinnamon, so...
Yep, I installed it, and it's running nicely. So far the only problem I'm having is that the system doesn't like to wake unless I tap the power button, but that's minor. Oh, and I can't install @sengi_app , I suspect that's not an option, ditto for @fedistar , so I'm not sure what I'll do for Mastodon over there, maybe Sengi web, not sure. Telegram was a big challenge, but I found a Snap pack for that. I would've preferred a Flatpak or AppImage, but the person that fixed Telegram so it works only chose to do a Snap.
So, aside from setting up @thunderbird and getting everything logged in on the web, it's up, running, and prolly by Monday, maybe Sunday, I'll give it a week as my day to day system and see how it holds up. Oh, I do have to get the download sidebar installed, that's a bit tricky as the extension for Firefox no longer exists, so I either have to pull it from my profile here, or I might've already set aside a copy that I can side load into it.

@fedistar I'm having problems launching the app, we're getting a shared library issue on LMDE
System info is in the pic, I tried launching from the terminal when choosing from the menu did nothing. Installation was from the DEB installer, though I've previously tried using the APPIMAGE with no better luck.
((this is a repost as my old blog/Friendica died before I could continue the thread))

Frisch entdeckt, wird der lokale Client für #Mastodon natürlich umgehend getestet.
Meine Konten parallel im Blick zu haben, hat mir früher schon bei Tweetdeck gefallen. Die Schrift ist leicht verschwommen und der willkürliche Wortumbruch verlangt Sätze mehrmals zu lesen. Zudem wird die verfügbare Zeichenzahl der Instanz nicht berücksichtigt. Daran wird hoffentlich noch gearbeitet.
