@neauoire He never explained fully what is tbdfs on his videos. After #iwp9 I finally got it. It's a really cool idea.

Andrew Gibson(adventuresin9)'s talk yesterday at #iwp9 about file systems gave me so many ideas, but one thing that struck me was his highlighting BeOS' metadata.

It makes it possible to use files as contacts, recipes, playlists, anything really and view these tags in the file manager. IT'S SO COOL, I want to build that for myself now.

Many people didn't know that Plan 9 was still a thing, and that we had reestablished #IWP9.

I have been attending since 9th edition, and so this is my fourth time. No regrets!

We have many students participating, and it's a great opportunity for them to not only meet each other, but also people who've been working in the industry for a good bunch of years. Hearing the convos during the lunch break here is super nice! \o/

For those interested, IWP9 is being live-streamed and the papers and WIPs are all linked from IWP9.org.

I just upgraded the system on the recording laptop for #IWP9, which is @archlinux btw, the only convenient distro out there. 🤗

I used the chance to try out #LXQt on #Wayland with #niri. While niri is not my cup of tea, this was a good chance to contribute to the #Arch wiki and document pitfalls with the config file; see the note in the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LXQt#Wayland_Session section.
Kudos to the person on Reddit who replied to someone else wondering why their config file had no effect, albeit validating ok.

As part of the #IWP9 #hackathon, we were debugging the bringup of the RISC-V port of 9front to QEMU yesterday. It was really painful, compared to my experiences with other kernels like Linux and the ease of Rust and its built-in print format capabilities. We were finally able to use uartputs with a static char[]. Something is still wrong, probably the static base register, as moody hinted on.
Anyway, we narrowed this down and learned a lot.

Every speaker at #IWP9 gets a cute little 3D printed Glenda. :-)

This year's #IWP9, the International Workshop on Plan 9, will be held at CNAM in #Paris.

A lot of interesting WiPs and papers were submitted.

Folks, we're doing this again! We'll be in Philadelphia this time, at Drexel University, for the 10th International Workshop on Plan 9.

We'll see that we improve the recordings and live streams. So far we're a small team, trying to do our best. Well, if that's not all Plan 9 is nowadays. 🙂
