#IRemember when Mexican cuisine was inexpensive and good! But turn it over to a Corpo to monetize in a new fancy building and you end up with a meal for two at $70. Not too long ago (Texas) $10-13 texmex was the norm.
A different related example, in 1980 trucks were ($6-7kish) utility vehicles and cheap. The Corpo decided to turn them into luxury vehicles and voilà they jumped to $16k, $30k to today where they can easily run close to $100k. Did your salary keep pace? 🔥

When this new restaurant appeared, Olive Garden in Corpus Christi, Tx., circa 1979. They used to tout their ‘trained in Italy’ chefs. Their Pasta Fagioli was the best. Over the years, their food quality went down, I think they sacked their local chefs, and started shipping pre-prepared food to their restaurants while prices went up .
I learned to make Pasta Fagioli at home, costs plummeted, quality skyrocketed, and I look forward to making this, it’s still so good!🤤

I remember Suse Sybille Katzenstein. Sie kam 1938 in Köln auf die Welt. 1942 wurde sie in Lodz ermordet. Dieses kleine Mädchen wurde nur drei oder gerade eben vier Jahre alt. Ihr Foto zeigt sie mit dem Ausdruck der ganz kleinen Kinder, für die alles in der Welt noch neu ist.

I remember Cäcilia Cilly Wolff. Sie wurde 1899 in Schiefbahn geboren. Im Februar 1942 wurde sie in Riga ermordet. Beim Zeichnen ihrer Züge nach dem Foto der Yad-Vashem-Datenbank habe ich mich gefragt, wer sie war. Es zeigt eine gestandene Frau mit ernstem, vielleicht aber auch verträumtem oder besorgtem Ausdruck.
