Hank Jongen (Centrelink/Services Australia) just tried to nominate himself as 'most helpful' guest on 'The Morning Show'.
Just a reminder he was the bureaucratic front* for the department/government during the #RoboDebt days.
Blood on hands.
* That he still there says something about the current government. The current situation has more in common with Howard and Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison persecution than the service ethics of pre-Howard Depart of Social Security (1972-1998) & CES (1946-1998).

People mystified by how One Nation can be getting votes, here's a perspective: Lose access to your NDIS funding under Labor, or lose the NDIS under ON, but have the consolation of seeing #AlboMP's place in history recorded as "defeated by One Nation".
Now, project that onto every issue on which Labor have just continued previous LNP trajectories. #RoboDebt, #NACC, #AUKUS, etc.
If your own grave is already being dug, you may as well dig a second to settle scores.

An actuary could calculate the sizes of groups 1. and 3..
Indeed the Royal Commission and the government could have had this calculation done. #AnthonyAlbanese's government still could.
But instead we are being kept ignorant.
What we can be certain of is that more people died than those who have already died after receiving Robodebt notices.
And we can know that new deaths are continuing to occur.

Robodebt: How many deaths did this illegal action trigger?tldr:
1. future deaths +
2. existing deaths of debt notice recipients +
3. existing deaths of family & friends of Robodebt targets. We've got ~2000 dead Australians for group 2.
Group 3 will have included deaths in friends & family of both those who survived receiving a debt notice and those who didn't.
Future deaths: AIUI suicides spread out in social groups. How long for? How widely?

I've been thinking about the RoboDebt deaths - the rough figure of 2000 was AIUI for people who'd personally received a debt notice.
Realising now that the impacts would have been far wider than just direct recipients - spouses, children, parents, close relatives & close friends would be in the wider group of those impacted by the stress of the illegal debt notice being received.
On top - the terrible impact of a close person's death being #RoboDebt linked.
How many more deaths?

Thinking back to the Royal Commission into #AgedCare in #Australia.
And how the Commisioner who saw the system as needing a fundamental re-do died only part way into the inquiry.
And how the final Commissioners referred precisely no-one for criminal investigation.
Just like the #RoboDebt Royal Commission.
And how the system is still the #AgedCareCrisis.
And the decades of failures by state governments to prosecute crimes in nursing homes never gets addressed.

You read of senior Australian public servant #MalisaGolightly who worked in roles that required the letter, but not the spirit, of regulations, and accepted norms of practice, being followed?
Was a central figure in the Australian government's illegal #RoboDebt project that has some 2000 deaths associated with it.
I truly doubt she was unique.
So when I hear that NDIS recipients who need a consultant to help them access wider funding are being denied funding for a consultant ...

Computers are not making decisions. The Australian government is, just like they did with #robodebt. It's unacceptable behaviour to be #AutomatingInequality for #NDIS + #AgedCare in #Australia

"The commonwealth ombudsman is investigating the government’s algorithm-based aged care assessment tool, which has been described by assessors as “cruel” and “inhumane” in its determination of home support funding for elderly Australians."
I seem to recall the Commonwealth Ombudsman investigating #robodebt a couple of times and deciding it was totes fine and cool both times.

"An NDIS Sustainability Taskforce was established within the health department earlier this year, with instructions from the federal government and national cabinet to advise on cost-cutting options for the $52bn program."
Labor could ask Mark Withnell, Kathryn Campbell, and Scott Britton for ideas. I believe they have some experience at that sort of thing. #robodebt

Australia's "top-tier health outcomes". When this is top-tier, I'd hate to see bottom tier.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04-07/act-paraplegic-woman-stranded-for-19-months-due-to-aged-care-bed/106528228Robust support to low incomes? Is that what we're calling #robodebt now? The "robust support" of constantly harrassing you + threatening prison for money you don't owe?

Let's do RoboDebt again but this time we'll try pushing old people to kill themselves by screwing up their support funding?
Anthony Albanese is overseeing bureaucratic manslaughter IMO.

The balancing act of investigations - for the sake of public administration/public policy case study, and for the sake of justice - has always been a difficult act.

… frankly, I’d say the ‘corrupt’ public servants are just as much victims as they are offenders.
Australia’s public servants work in a government system where the ‘separation’ between public service and parliament is very blurred.
Politicians are able to make veiled threats to pressure public servants into action. The other thing that needs to be kept in mind is that ‘corruption’ is a very broad term that covers all actions and behaviours which are ‘not within the expectations of the public service’.
So, the big question is ‘What are a forms of corruption that is also criminal?’
An obvious line of questioning would be ‘What political/material gain or benefit did the offenders receive?’ -

With the Robodebt report, NACC's role in Australia's political system is cemented: they are the cleaners. They tidy away messes and make nice little press releases clearing people of wrongdoing.
Got a stain on your reputation? Spray on a little NACC Report and it'll be gone before you know it.

Excellent article from Rick Morton about the failures of the NACC report into Robodebt. Rick literally wrote the book on Robodebt (it's called Mean Streak and it's great).
The tl;dr is that because of NACC's conflict of interest issues, the only person left at the Commission to do the report was an inexperienced deputy, who basically took Scott Morrison, Kathryn Campbell et al at their word when they said they didn't knowingly do anything wrong.
Morton doesn't say so, but it sounds like the findings were a foregone conclusion. They picked their scapegoats and it wasn't going to be the former PM and his crony.
