  1. thinking a lot about how the guy who convinced Steve Jobs not to put a back button on the iPhone because it'd be inconsistent and confusing is also the same guy who scammed millions of dollars from people with his Humane AI pin that never worked and that they're just going to straight up brick brick soon

talk about a hero to villain arc :neodog_googly_shocked: and YES, my fellow Android peeps, the back button is, in fact, inconsistent and terrible. :meowmeltthumbsup:

  3. Egun on! Gogoratzen duzue #AIPin tramankulu arraro hura? Bueno, ba asmatzaileek lortu dute azkenean nahi zutena. Enpresa itxi, handiago bati saldu eta etxera doaz, poltsikoak bero-bero. Zerbitzariak amatatzean, 6 hilabete baino gutxiago duten eta 500 euro inguru balio zuten gailuek hurrengo egunotan utziko diote funtzionatzeari. Kakazte zikloa, baina turboa sartuta.

  7. "With a slogan based on truth and trust 🤣 //
yeah but their customers got left with a paperweight"

    "We got the shaft
    We were true pin heads"

"My whole workflow is iPad + pin

  8. "So far, the company is sitting on a stockpile worth over a million dollars in returned products. But that’s not even the worst part. It seems carrier deals have truly doomed the returned units as the device simply can’t be refurbished and handed over to another customer, as is the case with phones and laptops."

So, they didn't make the product with ideas on how to avoid it becoming e-waste.

  9. "The two founders apparently "preferred positivity over criticism, leading them to disregard warnings about the AI Pin’s poor battery life and power consumption."

The level of head-assedness is baffling, but it helps recalling, that Humane is lead by two former Apple employees, so it's no wonder that they've got their heads up so far up their own asses, they think they can just start another cult around a product that's more about corporate soft-speak than substance.

"A senior software engineer was dismissed after raising questions about the product, they said, while others left out of frustration." After that software engineer was fired for questioning if the AI pin would be ready for launch, the report describes a staff meeting where the founders "said the employee had violated policy by talking negatively about Humane."

So basically, the founders threw a tamper tantrum because someone dared to ask if what was being built would actually be functional. Lovely.

"It's hard to make a good product if you can't honestly talk about the negatives and positives for fear of retaliation."

You just know they knew it was all bullshit and they just wanted to siphon all the venture capital money into their own pockets and fuck off without having earned any of it.

  12. Are all of those AI pins and wearables be an App?

    Yes.

They're just an update away from Apple, Google and Samsung to be useless.

They were made to be sold to some corpo, cashout and live in the Bahamas. Not for solving a problem.

The #HumaneAI Pin is laughably bad. But I believe they made it with the best of intentions. It clearly has had a lot of thought and effort (and a shit ton of money) put into it. No one puts all that effort into something so it will be shit. It's not a terrible idea, on paper but it's obvious the #tech isn't there. If they dropped the price by $300 and licensed Star Trek and made it look like TNG badge, they'd probably sell out.

  14. @josephcox
I got severe a ‘Nathan Barley’ callback, reading that. A shit sandwich still tastes the same, even if it has ‘exciting potential’.

I went through the whole Web 1.0, DJ in the corner, micro scooter, beanbag phase. Was continually amazed at the strength of “group de-think”: The ability to collectively champion ideas that everyone knew were utterly, utterly *crap*.

The IPO Limbo dance has evolved to to the Hubristic Krumping.

  15. As soon as I saw this video on my YouTube feed, I immediately sussed out what was going on despite having not seen the actual video being referred to but only having come across the title.

I lurked at the badsite and saw that I was right. (And I hate that I had to go to the badsite to confirm. 🤷‍♂️)

  16. Even beyond AI not actually working:

    1. What if, instead of "#AI does everything" overpromising, they'd just focused on a few actually useful things that they *could* get to work?

    2. Always-on connectivity? Yeah, never gonna work, ever. I refer to everyone's experience with everything.

    3. It's a privacy nightmare & there's zero chance the product isn't just a front for getting their hands on your data footprint.

In conclusion, the #HumaneAI pin is a big nope.

  18. If not a fingerprint sensor, why not allow an option to auto-unlock if it is bluetooth range of your phone?

I realize the AI pin is supposed to supplant the phone, but…
    1. Come on. No one is walking around with an AI pin but not their phone.
    2. Using the PIN can remain the default unlock option.

  19. Humane laid off 4 percent of employees this week. Clearly pre orders didn’t meet expectations and the product didn’t connect the way they hoped.

Who would have thought that people wouldn’t want to buy a device that could only do a subset of things your phone can do, while likely being not as good at those tasks; and isn’t really capable of replacing your phone.
