  1. I *did* write the documentation back in the days but apparently 5 years has done its job with it. I guess 2 firewalls has broken during that time, and I've at least doubled the amount if #raspberrypi's in the house.

  6. So, excited! Finally got FTTH installed. Now we've got proper symmetric (almost) gig connectivity and no bandwidth caps.

  11. Upgrading the APs to in the house and decided I wanted to mount the garage AP upright on the baker's rack post in the garage so it radiates upward into the main floor. Measured the dimensions of the included bracket and modeled a post mount for it. Now it's published in case it can help any of you other nerds out there.

  21. Welches #Dashboard würdet ihr mir denn fürs #HomeNet / #HomeLab empfehlen?
    Anspruch:
    - läuft als Docker Container
    - kein ressourcenfressendes Monster
    - bestenfalls für Links zu Apps und Bookmarking
    - Sortierbar

Bisher getestet habe ich Heimdall, Bender, Flame. Alle haben ihre Vorzüge, aber keins ist so richtig perfekt.

  26. #TIL about the special-use .home.arpa tld. It's reserved for "non-unique use in residential home networks" and free to use. I just remapped all my local self-hosted services to *.home.arpa domains. So much better than using 192.168.0.*:PORT #selfhosted #selfhosting #homenet

  31. Yay, #Internet at home is completely gone now, likely because of power disruption in the #electricity net in #Bodø...
Already seen the lights flicker three times, so I guess it's not #HomeNet's fault this time...

  33. So, I was going to call #homenet to complain about my shitty connexion ever since their maintenance a couple of days ago.
Checking speedtest on my wife's PC though, showed she was getting proper speeds...
Then I noticed an orange blinking light on the router's LAN port my laptop is using... Unplugged it and plugged it back in, and yes, speeds are back to normal... I guess the cable might've been pulled out slightly (I ought to crimp a new plug on one of these days...), and been working on half-duplex mode instead?

Wish I'd checked that sooner... at least I hadn't called them yet....

This is far better than the 40Mbps I was getting before...

Latency: 0.76 ms (0.31 ms jitter)
Download: 772.08 Mbps (data used: 496.2 MB)
Upload: 913.83 Mbps (data used: 841.4 MB)
    Packet Loss: 0.0%

Appliances that don't have a power switch, and instead require you to unplug the adapter from the outlet, or the power plug from the device itself...

*Glares at his #Homenet modem router which needs a power-cycle every now and then to counter dropped network speeds.

  40. So, I wasted a night and a day on this issue and quite a bit of my sanity because the fuckers reconfigured 2 of the LAN ports for IP-TV (which we don't have) and IP-telephony (which they apparently don't even offer anymore), and didn't think it would be handy to mention while installing, or to add as an appendix to the manual supplied with the device...
