  1. @chipiguay I'm on that boat too, I think our use case merits a distinct hashtag, where the non-admin users are the center, and the admin is definitely not into full-time admining.

I don't know... #HomeHosting? Is there one already?

    Boosted, and good luck!

  3. @sodiboo Technology has no volition, it can't be cool or not. It wasn't technology that was cool, it was always that the TransFurryHackers that were cool. That the moneysick were posing as cool people (and they convinced the moneysick poser media) is really just another part of their sickness.
The "500 channel universe" was never supposed to be owned/intermediated by these morons. That happened because: NAT44, Windows-too-unsafe-to-use, Incumbent-Telco-want-eyeballs-not-citizens. #ipv6 #homehosting
I keep looking for business models that would support #littlebrother community mesh networks. Best I have come up with is community backups.

  5. 🔥 In the grand tradition of reinventing the wheel, our hero proudly hosts a server at home only to discover his ISP doesn't give out static IPs. 🤦‍♂️ So, for the low, low price of $35 a month, he gets to play hide and seek with his own server on the internet. 🕵️‍♀️🎉

  7. Had been needing / wanting to make this for a while: a visualisation of the content hosted on the 'home&self-hosted server'.

  8. @dansup this and retrofitting the existing storage branch appears to do the trick! @garym can have avatars now but they don't show afar, oh and my sub domain? no, oh, golly, no. IG? Just a coincidence.

This message has a mention. Will see what happens.

Full #Fediverse is an adventure for #homehosting. I've still not figured out these 'pending' #pixelfed follows, but it's only 11pm

  10. @theluddite @tinyrabbit You *can* host a website at home without a static IP address. I run my little site cmacleod.me.uk on an "upcycled" old PC at home, connected via a Cloudflare "Zero Trust" Tunnel - developers.cloudflare.com/clou - on their free tier, I only paid a few pounds to register the domain. This does not require a static IP, or even opening any incoming ports on your router. #homehosting

  12. Not sure if this issue is only prevalent to me but my Libreddit / Redlib instance keeps going down every 24 hours - causing me having to setup a cronjob for it to restart every 24 hours. Not entirely sure if this issue only happens for the Dockerized version but I remembered a loooooooooooong time ago when I had libreddit installed as source, the downtime was a lot less. Anyone having this issue?

  14. Looking for a refurbished workstation tower that has an m2-slot and room for at least 3 3.5" ssd's (and the corresponding sata ports too). HDMI-out would be a very welcome bonus.

The goal is to run TrueNAS or equivalent, haven't decided yet. If HDMI, then maybe I'll hook it up to the TV and run Kodi (or eq.). Also: nextcloud and k3s master.

It's been years since I've dealt with HW other than my laptop or home routers, so any insights are welcome.
