I think my problem is that I might actually be more cynical than the people loudly complaining about it, although the lack of consistency is kind of annoying.
Here's the #DistroWatch top 15:
- CachyOS (Active)
- Linux Mint (Active)
- MX Linux (Active)
- PopOS (Active)
- Debian (Last post 2025, pinned comment about why they're not posting there anymore)
- ZorinOS (Active)
- Fedora Project (Last post 2024, no comment in bio about not posting, or why, but there's a mastodon link)
- Ubuntu (Active)
- EndeavourOS (Active)
- Bazzite (Active)
- Manjaro (Last post 2025-08-07, no mention in bio or pinned comment about why they're not posting)
- Arch Linux (no X account)
- AnduinOS (no X account)
- PikaOS (no X account)
- OpenSuSE (Active)
I mean... what the flaming gehenna, already. 🤦♂️
And any that don't will most likely have facebook and/or insta accounts, and that's almost just as bad.

Ah. Yeah. I just excitedly followed a famous person today who made the move from #HellBird... and unfollowed them after reading about five posts.
Those who import twit culture will find themselves quickly isolated in echo chambers of their own incessant toxic emotional regurgitation.
How is culture different in Pleroma?
Honestly, just unfollowung those who boosted crap restored my timeline to pre-late-twexodus peacefulness. 😁

I see a couple dynamics: one is that some people are just so desperate and angry that they're in scream_rage mode 24/7. That is pretty sad.
The other is that people on #HellBird have learned that they can attract attention/followers by being as vitriolic and hateful as possible. THAT is *pathetic*. :(
Also, just some good old French Revolution-style chaotic groupthink.

So... #TombTuesday is a thing, and it's not macabre or snide, but... just kinda what you'd expect from rational, sane people talking about tombs and sharing pictures of them.
Um.... wow. Just when I think we're turning into #HellBird, there's a hashtag with "TOMB" in it that's actually super wholesome.
You guys. :D

@ai6yr @mattblaze @DoomsdaysCW
Just my two cents, but I think #BirdSite culture should be contained to instances that decide they just want to let everything hang out like that. Same for news bots.
I *really* like the fact that Mastodon doesn't trigger anxiety, or do any rage-farming, and I'd really hate for that to change. We have an amazing culture of kindness and deference, I really don't want to turn it into #HellBird. :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

🇬🇧 Oho #ElonMusk goes to war with #Apple because they withdrew ads from #Hellbird. He starts throwing that #Apple doesn’t support #FreeSpeech and such.
🇵🇱 Oho #ElonMusk idzie na wojnę z #Apple, bo wycofali reklamy z #Hellbird. Zaczyna rzucać tekstami, że #Apple nie uznaje #FreeSpeech i takie tam 🙄😂

@deValmont Well hello there. I‘m a runaway from #hellbird myself and already feeling at home here.

It's all about the algorithm, my friend, which is to say: THERE IS NONE.
That's why we're low-key fanatical about this place: it's like 2009 Twitter (generally referred to as #BirdSite or #HellBird), but with an even higher quality of people. No rage farming, no algorithmic prodding, just quality interactions.
I've only been here for half a year, and I'm already crazy about it. Look at how many toots I send in a day!!

@dallin @georgetakei
This is the real test, innit? Uptime, cost of hosting, code efficiency, user vetting, that's all just icing.
The REAL test is whether #Mastodon will *remain* Mastodon when it becomes popular and is filled with #HellBird-programmed people.
May we be up to the task. (Because as human endeavours go, we rarely are :blobcatderpy: ;)

Grace is an uncomfortable bubble.
We should hope people grow into what we have here, rather than transforming it into #HellBird.
*Holding the line* with grace and kindness is SUPER important, neither giving up, nor going more insular.

Has anyone already written a program that takes a Twitter personal archive (the stuff you get from "export your data") and turns it into a bunch of HTML files, containing all the *public* information, that one could put on one's website labeled, for instance, "archived contents of my former twitter account"?
Ideally it would scrape the website and recover as much as possible of all conversation threads one had participated in.
Also, ideally, the output of this program would be static, JS-free HTML to the maximum extent feasible.

My latest #birdsite deletion is still pending, so pretty recent.
My previous account was from 2008 to 2020, which I deleted at that time because they changed their privacy policy for the worse.I had a lot of fun being back on #hellbird this year, and it was a lovely respite from the poop fountain of #fb.
But I ain't havin' any of that #MUSK. 😆
Been loving #Mastodon so far (not my first time here, either, lol)
