So this is the highest brix I got from the dozen or so grapes I tested this afternoon (lowest was ~12°) but I'm really not sure if they're going to get much sweeter at this point. It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow and saturday so maybe I'll wait a few more days.
I have more hops drying for a dry matter test, but I might just harvest them tomorrow regardless.

Digging holes and then filling them back up today. The cedar posts for my wine trellises rotted through and collapsed. So much for cedar's magical anti-rot properties. Let's see how quickly this galvanized steel rots.

I would hope that people who follow me or the work we do at
#TablasCreek know that I believe the wine world can and should do better at moving to #organic (and better) farming. That notwithstanding, I agree with every point @wblakegray makes in his newest piece.https://www.wine-searcher.com/m/2023/02/in-defense-of-conventional-wine

For the next #grape in the #GrapeMinute series we’ve been recording at #TablasCreek, I dive into one of our non-Rhone varieties: #Tannat!
This famously tannic, ageworthy grape originated in the #Basque country and has become the national grape of Uruguay. It’s also growing in popularity in California. Here’s one minute with all the essentials to get you up to speed.

Hermann Müller (1850-1927) from Thurgau, Switzerland, was a botanist, plant physiologist, oenologist & grape breeder. He called himself Müller-Thurgau. In Geisenheim he created Müller-Thurgau (1882) by crossing Riesling x Madeleine Royale - not Riesling x Silvaner, as first assumed.

In 1934, as part of the “Public Works of Art Project” (first of the New Deal federal employment programs for artists) artists painted murals on the walls of Coit Tower on San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill, depicting various aspects of Californian life (incl. grape growing and #winemaking) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coit_Tower
