From Wikipedia:
The SafetyNet Attestation API (one of the four APIs under the SafetyNet umbrella) has been deprecated. As of 6 October 2023, Google planned to replace it with the Play Integrity API by the end of January 2025. The transition ended on 20 May 2025, breaking applications which hadn't been updated. These attestations are offered by Google Play Services and thus are not available on free Android environments, like AOSP. Therefore, developers can require the API to be available and may refuse to execute on AOSP builds.

Mozilla has added a new Google Play Integrity library to Firefox for Android. Firefox can now request a Play Integrity token and send it to Mozilla's MLPA server.
Mozilla says this is tied to AI-related features, not general browser functionality, so Firefox should still work on rooted and non-certified Android devices. However, some AI features may be unavailable on those devices.

Paying without #Google: New consortium in #Europe wants to remove #customROM hurdles
Using #banking and payment apps on #Android smartphones with custom ROMs is a problem: A European industry consortium now wants to change that. It is an #opensource alternative to #GooglePlayIntegrity. This proprietary interface decides on Android smartphones with #GooglePlay services whether banking, government, or wallet apps are allowed to run on a smartphone.

I was previously posting about trying to charge an EV while using #LineageOS. I ordered an RFID tag from #Chargepoint, which works well, and I tried their app too. I thought that it wasn't working because of Google Play Integrity, which prevents banking apps for instance from working on unsigned devices. It turns out that I can still log in and even initiate a charge from the app, but because I don't have Google Play Services installed on my device I can't use the map feature to search for charging stations. I don't really care that much about this, since I can use #CoMaps for the same purpose.
I'm aware I can use #microG to get this functionality, and that I can get some level of device signing, but I don't care to.

I managed to install #LineageOS on a #Fairphone4 today! I bought a phone from #Murena and then went from /e/OS to Fairphone stock Android 13 (for compatibility reasons) to LineageOS. #Verizon claims that the device is not supported, and they gave me the runaround when I tried to activate service on stock Android, even though everything just worked on /e/OS. They don't know what they're doing: Everything just works on LineageOS too.
Well, except the stuff that needs Google Play Integrity, since I'm not gonna try to spoof that. I was able to install the #Chargepoint app via #AuroraStore and log on, but it refuses to serve me. Not to worry, though, I have an RFID card coming in the mail for that.
With any luck this device will get me through the next few years.
