  1. I managed to install #LineageOS on a #Fairphone4 today! I bought a phone from #Murena and then went from /e/OS to Fairphone stock Android 13 (for compatibility reasons) to LineageOS. #Verizon claims that the device is not supported, and they gave me the runaround when I tried to activate service on stock Android, even though everything just worked on /e/OS. They don't know what they're doing: Everything just works on LineageOS too.

Well, except the stuff that needs Google Play Integrity, since I'm not gonna try to spoof that. I was able to install the #Chargepoint app via #AuroraStore and log on, but it refuses to serve me. Not to worry, though, I have an RFID card coming in the mail for that.

With any luck this device will get me through the next few years.

  2. Needed to make a quick charging stop in Eastham because I forgot to charge to 100% before leaving for Provincetown, and the extra drag from the bike rack made the efficiency worse. Obviously the bike design is not optimized for the aerodynamic when it's sideways 😜

I could charge near Ptown long enough so I can make it home, but 1) Ptown's DC charger is a Tesla supercharger, as much as I don't want give money to Musk, it is also not 800V output, meaning the Taycan only takes around 140-150kw, which is not so much different from the 120kw I can get from this ChargePoint. 2) as I don't drive much, I need to take advantage of the Electrify America free charging when I have the opportunity.

So a quick 9 mins charge from 11% to 22% and we got on the way to the Electrify America in Hyannis. Arrived with 13% SoC and got the free juice to 85%.

  3. I have a Level 2 charger my #ID4Pro #EV at home. I also have a #ChargePoint #EVGo & an #ElectrifyAmerica account.

However, I believe in #BeingPreprared. So, I bought a #J1772 to #NACS #Tesla adapter but I'd only use a Tesla #Supercharger (or destination charger) as a last resort (because I have issues with #Musk ) & haven't even downloaded the Tesla charging app yet, so I can't even use a Tesla charger yet but . . .

Here's an interesting article to those who are interested in #EVs published by #ConsumerReports about their experience charging certain non-Tesla EVs at #Tesla #Superchargers with a J1772 to NACS (Tesla) adapter or with Tesla's #MagicDock . . .

  8. @jswright61 Hardwired is better because there are fewer points of failure (no plug) but worse because it’s less flexible (no plug). 😀

In my case, I’m going to buy a 40- or 50-amp #EVSE so I shouldn’t need to upgrade it. I don’t think we’ll ever need a second charger (we hardly ever drive our second car), and I doubt I’ll ever get into a hobby that will require 220V tools, so going hardwired seems like the right tradeoff for me.

I’m looking hard at the #ChargePoint Home Flex because my local utility will give me a $250 rebate; the hardwire version is $50 cheaper than one with a plug.

Thanks for helping me think this out!

  10. Why are all #EV charging stations except Tesla badly maintained? I have used #Chargepoint, #electrifyamerica and #evgo and anecdotally can say that there is a 50% chance at least one charger is broken.

The problem is the charger maker wants to sell hardware and the property owner just wants a checkbox in Yelp and Tripadvisor listings. Who is looking at the customer's experience? No one!

Make maintenance and uptime a requirement (else penalty!) and see how things change.
