My #Linux story...
For years I used #Ubuntu then a few of its flavours after GNOME 2 died.
Then, #LinuxMint when snap was forced onto us, and since I used #Debian for servers, I moved to #LMDE as it felt more familiar.
Grew tired of the #Cinnamon desktop and wanted something more modern. Installed GNOME and with a few tweaks, I found what I was looking for.
At that point, I may as well just run Debian with GNOME. So that's what I've done 👍
When #GNOME3 came out I hated it! How times change... -

Wow, it's #Gnome3 Version 46 now and still: no picture preview in the file selection dialogue. How is this supposed to be user friendly?
It's not there by default, it's not easily configurable, it's not even in `gnome-tweaks`.
Does KDE support this? Yeah, since about 1876.
Oh, and you know what would be great: if a user knew what the shitty app was actually called to file a bug.
`gnome-tweaks`? Introduces itself as "GNOME-Optimierungen" in German for instance. Good look finding the correct repo, let alone the executable or package if you have to install it.
That thing that says it's called "Settings" in it's info box (in German they say 'settings' now for Einstellungen, I suppose?)? Yeah, it's obviously called `gnome-control-center`! Because, why not?

@mnnwvn GNOME 2 был шедевром. Начиная с версии 3 GNOME не заслуживает внимания. Есть форк GNOME 2: MATE. После выхода GNOME 3 я перешёл на MATE.

does anyone know of a quicker way of changing the sound device in #linux, especially #gnome3, in another way than opening pavucontrol? bonus points if it's easy to reach and doesn't require lots of clicking around, with a keyboard or mouse. I'm trying to make contingency plans for the rare case that my sound may actually die, and therefore orca wouldn't be able to speak, because speech dispatcher won't be able to output sound. This is particularly important when it comes to connecting things which could present themselves as sound output devices even though they aren't in the traditional sense, for example some bluetooth controllers.

I've tried running #Debain (my distro of choice) #Ubuntu #Fedora #Solus #Manjaro and a few others mixed with #XFCE #MATEde & #budgie on this MacBook a1181
Debian + XFCE or MATE was the only combination that worked.
Manjaro + XFCE, MATE & Cinnamon somewhat worked but was picky about booting and the system would lock up completely often.
I thought about giving #ArchLinux a try before reinstalling Debian & XFCE but I didn't feel like possibly wasting my time getting it up and running. A quick search to see if there was any quick graphical installer for Arch brought me to EndeavourOS. I selected #Gnome3 by mistake somehow and it's running better than my Debain install. And I didn't have to dick around to get the wifi working! -

OpenSuse Tumbleweed Rules!
#OpenSuse #Tumbleweed it is simply amazing... If it wasn't for #systemd I would probably use it on my workstation.
The default partition setup it is just the state of the art of #BTRFS usage, which is pretty tedious to do manually; besides that I am also very impressed how smooth and fast it is on this #Ryzen 3 2200U. I am not talking about #Gnome3 of course, I eventually moved on #XFCE cause the non-sense of Gnome which get worst with version 40 🤷♂️ but I really don't care, those are their business! https://social.isurf.ca/display/c443a55c-4460-af1c-0f1f-e75821836021 -
