#GISAID ruining science. This is a great shame.

covSPECTRUM, an invaluable tool, will continue to work with open data from the INSDC system (ENA, NCBI, DDBJ).

But historical data and data from many countries only feeding into GISAID will be unavailable.

#Ontario, Canada peeps or anyone have insight into why there was a sudden stop of uploading Ontario COVID #genomic sequence data to #GISAID? Last sequences dated Feb. 12, 2025 and nothing since. There was still 57-83 sequences a day being uploaded before that.

Now only a small # of sequences coming from NB & Quebec and periodically a few from AB, BC, and NS for all of Canada. You can see the big drop in Canada sequences when ON stopped submitting so very difficult to track what is going on.🧵1/

@firefoxx66 just wow. when bioinformatics databases go bad.. it’s interesting that in a strange way he was an enforcer of some very complex game theory, and probably suited to it, given his apparently own pathological nature. #gisaid

Extremely troubling story: president and founder of #GISAID, the world's largest repository for #sarscov2 sequences, fabricated much of his CV, spent time in jail for securities fraud, posed as a made-up employee, and is "becoming increasingly isolated and a bit paranoid about access to this data" 😱 :
