Petrichor bedeutet übersetzt "Götterblut der Steine".Der Geruch entsteht durch ein #Öl, das bestimmte #Pflanzen während Trockenperioden absondern, welches wiederum von Tonböden und Gesteinen absorbiert wird. Während des Regens wird das Öl, zusammen mit einer anderen Verbindung namens #Geosmin, in die Luft freigesetzt.
