  3. Well that time went quickly. It's already time for our traditional ending of #BGBingo. I'm hoping that no one is close to my 10.8 this evening? I blame the pasta bake for tea! #GBDoc

A5. First, you owe no-one your diagnosis. (Okay, well, some people, but in social situations, no.)
Second, you are more than your diabetes and if the people you're around take more than a few weeks to sort that out, that's a them problem, not a you problem.
Third, if it's a confidence thing, go slow. If you're MDI, start dosing at the table when you're out. If you're doing finger pricks, just do them like you would at home (but pick up and stash your test strip, please. Diabetic confetti is hilarious to us, a biohazard to normies). Work on normalising it the best you can for you.
Fourth, seriously, take your time. If you don't want to tell someone and it doesn't put you (or them) at risk, you don't have to. We're not obligated to crawl up on the altar of vulnerability just because we don't have functional beta cells.

  33. Q5. No one should feel that they have to hide their #diabetes. What's your advice for people who maybe don't have the confidence to disclose, or find themselves in situations where they feel they can't? #GBDoc

A4. I have had friends that can't stand the idea that disability can happen to anyone at anytime remove themselves from my life.

I think it's a bit of a shame, but I also don't think it's my place to make people deal with more than they can. I hope they never experience it, but I hope if they do, they are surrounded by better friends than they were to me.

  36. Q4. Have you had any negative responses to disclosing your diabetes? How did you respond to this? #GBDoc #stopthestigma

A3. I've only had the one job since my dx and given that I got hired after a dinner out where I injected myself at the table...

I'm not a helpful answerer for this question - my life is weird. 😅 #GBDoc

  38. Q3. Let's talk work. When do you disclose your diabetes? When applying for the job, at the interview or when you start the role if successful? #GBDoc

A2. I don't hide my tech, but I also don't put it on display. That requires way too much foresight for my brain. It goes where it fits and if it's on display, so be it. If it's hidden, no big.

I don't mind people asking. I do mind the people who, after asking what the pump at my waist or the sensor on my arm is, become experts in what T1D folks can and can't do and eat. Like, you didn't know what this was, I don't think I'm going to bow to your newfound expertise.

I *love* wild diabetic sightings. The best ones are when we're the Spider-Man pointing meme. Especially when it's across train platforms or something. We're so cute when we get excited. #GBDoc

A1. Oh, absolutely. I'm big on self-advocacy and the more people I can get to think of it (or any chronic condition that I or anyone else deals with) as normal, the better life gets.

Also, it weeds out the ones that can't handle anyone different.

Ryn here. T1d for 8 years now, pump and CGM with CamAPS (new user, been on it about a week).

Man, I love potatoes in all forms, you can't make me choose. It's like choosing between my pets. They all have their place.

However, if you haven't had Syracuse Salt Potatoes (or more known more closely as Papas Arrugadas from the Canaries), then put that on your to-make list. #GBDoc

Q1. Are you comfortable with disclosing your #diabetes to people? Is it something that you're happy and okay to talk about in a group setting for example? #GBDoc

  58. Q5) What do you think needs to happen to reduce/bust myths and misconceptions?

One of the best movements at present in the #diabetes community is #EndDiabetesStigma (enddiabetesstigma.org/)?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

    Let's shush the stigma🤫
