After 40 years of working in grassroots movements, we've watched the same pattern repeat: a small number of people begin to #gatekeep - controlling who gets in, who gets heard, and what gets decided - until there's no way in or out without their approval. We've seen this dynamic damage or destroy numerous movements. We're naming it here because awareness is the first line of defence. The #OGB framework exists partly to address this, building more open and accountable governance so that no person or clique can quietly close the doors.

I've read today that #SamAltman owns an #agecheck company and wants to implement it to #gatekeep access to #ChatGpt ...
...if this is true, Sam will singlehandedly do more to retard adoption of #Ai than millions of Neo- #luddites fighting #aislop with memes and literal nonsense.
But, I guess in one respect SOME neo-luddites were right, get you addicted to offloading cognitive load, then #monetise it hard.

...if this is true, Sam will singlehandedly do more to retard adoption of #Ai than millions of Neo- #luddites fighting #aislop with memes and literal nonsense.

So .. i just tried to play #Farcry5 after buying it on sale a while back. 30 minutes into the unskippable cinematics at the start of the game, i hit ALT+F4, and will probably never open that game again. Probably a good game, but design like that is a good way to #gatekeep people with #adhd like me effectively. I'm basically dead inside from boredom now lol #gaming #games #gamedesign #badgamedesign

The number of people online (mostly on other platforms) who think they have any right to determine how early or late in the year other people should have #Christmas #decorations up is staggering. Don't #gatekeep joy. Let people enjoy things. I'll keep my #tree up all damned year long* if I feel like it, and people telling me what to do is a one-way ticket to #SantaClausVillage.
*I do, in fact, have my tree up still, but only because I'm #busy and also #lazy.
