If you are laid off due to AI, know that very soon companies will realize that AI is nothing more that a token prediction machine. And it's lazy. Very lazy. To the point that it will tell you it did something when it didn't.
When you go back, make sure you get paid as much as they have wasted/burned on AI. Because this screenshot right here is what devs see AI doing. We know it's hype. But bosses who don't spend time with actual devs, are oblivious. Enjoying chatbots pleasing and coming up with hallucinated results (wrong chain of token predictions).

The Slow System Crash of Society
/LOGS/BLOG_POST Posted by Eric |May 13, 2026 There was a time when people actually knew how to do things. Fix things. Build things. Endure things. Gen X grew up in the analog static between two worlds. One foot outside riding bikes until the streetlights came on, the other sitting in front of a beige Packard Bell listening to a 56k modem scream like it was dying in a steel trap. We learned patience because everything took forever. Games took twenty minutes to load. Internet pages appeared […]https://ericfoltin.com/2026/05/13/the-slow-system-crash-of-society/

Its good to have many tests in your R package, but it can be a pain to debug some failing tests when it happens. {lazytest} for the rescue: only rerun the failing tests, until they pass: https://lazytest.cynkra.com/ #RStats #testthat #lazy

Here's a strange situation:
thousands of #Rust developers use #bacon, #broot, #dysk, or #lazy-regex every single day — tools I wrote, maintain, and improve for free.
Their companies, though? None of them want to hire their author.
If you use my tools at work and your company does #Rust, I'd really appreciate a hand landing a job or freelance mission. A boost goes a long way. 🙏🦀

I have no pizza dough left anymore and I do not want to make a new one. But I do want to eat another pizza 😫
How do we solve that problem?

Sitting inside office.
I see people talking.
I see couple of them working on some code.
Person 1: I need the context to run this.
Person 2: History shows password in plain text (not cleartext)...
Person 1: Safest way?
Person 2: Go to that path and type #copilot there. It will do your task.
Person 1 & 2 together: ENJOY!!! -

@mercury mercury-playground.cc now uses lazy-loading for the samples, which greatly improves the loading time of the website (pretty much instant now), and only the samples that you use in the code get loaded once they are played.
If you wanna force loading all the samples anyways, run: `set samples default`

"... LLMs highlight how essential our human laziness is: our finite time forces us to develop crisp abstractions in part because we don’t want to waste our (human!) time on the consequences of clunky ones. The best engineering is always borne of constraints, and the constraint of our time places limits on the cognitive load of the system that we’re willing to accept. This is what drives us to make the system simpler, despite its essential complexity. "

> Hares don’t burrow, but dig out shallow scrapes called “forms”. They’re very
> shallow hare-shaped indentations.... or, if they're lazy, they find a roughly hare-shaped depression that happens to already exist 😆
I looked out my front window just now and saw this one enjoying the late afternoon sun while lying in an improvised form where the paving blocks have shifted and sunk, up against the edge of the poured concrete driveway. The stone and concrete were quite warm from sitting in the sun.
Sorry for the lousy photo - this was taken through a dirty window, and he sat up when I tried to snap him through the open door.
[Edit: forgot to attach the darn picture]
