Windows has broken on me once again, I can no longer open up steam as it decides that it'll open up in a random 3rd monitor I don't own / have. I've tried many different things to fix the window and nothing.

I guess this is the time I need to download and dual boot Linux for my games because fuck you microslop. (Also yes I will move 100% over when I can).

Gotta love it when Windows Update forces itself on your PC, only for the update to go so spectacularly wrong that you can't get to the login screen and attempting to use automated system recovery fails to even write the log file about what it didn't accomplish. This basically confirms we're not going to use Microsoft products on anything that's actually important to us, and despite having a Windows license for this mini PC we're seriously tempted to wipe it and install Linux anyway.

And to the inevitable tech bro replies: we're already comfortable running Arch Linux as our daily driver. We just kept a low power Windows install around for a couple of utilities that are more convenient to run on Windows.

Was würdet ihr sagen ist die beste #linuxdistribution für alte Laptops (i5 6.gen, 8gb ram, gtx 960).
Ich glaube von mir selbst aus hätte ich #Linux mint installiert, aber vielleicht probiere ich auch mal #fedora
Es muss wirklich nur für Libre Office, browsen und ab und zu mal Streaming reichen.
Aktuelle habe ich Ubuntu drauf, aber das funktioniert nicht so gut und ich glaube mit anderen #distros könnte es besser laufen.

I was so worried about getting a Windows game to run on Linux. Turns out, that was the easiest thing ever. I'm so glad I made the move from Windows when I did. There are hardly any impossible hurdles when you're trying to get things working.

Second time in 2 months I've woken up, looked at my laptop, and discovered that sometime overnight, Windows decided to update itself and restart. Without my permission.

I *thought* I had it set to always ask me first, but I guess maybe Microsoft changed my setting for me, sometime in a previous upgrade?

There are so many reasons I've gotta get off Windows, but this one is fucking infuriating. 😡

I'm actually quite happy to have full control over my laptop again. Many people would have probably thrown it away (it became too slow, memory problems, kept crashing, six years old,...) and bought a new one, again with the same old shit on it.

@lemgandi Have you tried booting Linux from a flashdrive so you can recover files? Booting to Linux allows it to be the system issuing commands instead of Windows, so you may be able to still access documents and save them to a drive or something. You may be able to get a copy of the hard drive once you can use the computer normally. Windows can't read some Linux files because they don't support it, but Linux can read (all?) windows files I believe. Good luck!

I stopped playing Terraria when I switched from Windows to Linux because when played on the TV screen (preferred way) the visuals would lag or bug out and on the computer it was doing this weird hyper textured thing. Fast forward a year and I tried to play just to see if it fixed and, as most Linux users would guess, it was.

When something's broke on Linux, just keep updating, wait a while, and chances are it'll be fixed. Still better than Windows <3

Ich habe meiner Ü80 Oma vor ein paar Wochen auf ihrem neuen PC #Linux (#zorinos) installiert. Hintergrund war, dass sie ständig Probleme mit Windows un dessen dessen Update-Meldungen und Dark Design Patterns und so hatte. Hatte ihr dann noch Picasa 3 in Wine installiert und sie ist damit in den Urlaub.
Habe schon das schlimmste befürchtet, aber keine paar Tage später sendet sie fröhlich bearbeitete Bilder und an Weihnachten hat sie mir jetzt erzählt, dass sie schon selbst damit Sachen mit ihrem Scanner gescannt hat und ähnliches.
Ich bin total Baff. (fast) Alles funktioniert einfach.
Ich liebe #Linux. Es kann so einfach sein. Keine Abofallen. Keine nervigen Popups. Keine verzweifelten Anrufe mehr, weil Oma irgendwas mit onedrive angeklickt hat und Dateien weg sind.
