Going to install Bazzite on my desktop next week (because fuck Microsoft). Have done as much testing as I can with it in VirtualBox, and early indications are that it’s about as effortlessly “it just works” as linux currently gets, which is what I want. I respect the tinkerers and fiddlers and build-from-scratchers, but that’s not me at this point in my life. Outside of initial installation and setup, I just want something easy and boring to use that isn’t infested with generative AI or spyware/telemetry

Gotta love it when Windows Update forces itself on your PC, only for the update to go so spectacularly wrong that you can't get to the login screen and attempting to use automated system recovery fails to even write the log file about what it didn't accomplish. This basically confirms we're not going to use Microsoft products on anything that's actually important to us, and despite having a Windows license for this mini PC we're seriously tempted to wipe it and install Linux anyway.
And to the inevitable tech bro replies: we're already comfortable running Arch Linux as our daily driver. We just kept a low power Windows install around for a couple of utilities that are more convenient to run on Windows.

Was würdet ihr sagen ist die beste #linuxdistribution für alte Laptops (i5 6.gen, 8gb ram, gtx 960).
Ich glaube von mir selbst aus hätte ich #Linux mint installiert, aber vielleicht probiere ich auch mal #fedora
Es muss wirklich nur für Libre Office, browsen und ab und zu mal Streaming reichen.
Aktuelle habe ich Ubuntu drauf, aber das funktioniert nicht so gut und ich glaube mit anderen #distros könnte es besser laufen.

I was so worried about getting a Windows game to run on Linux. Turns out, that was the easiest thing ever. I'm so glad I made the move from Windows when I did. There are hardly any impossible hurdles when you're trying to get things working.

Second time in 2 months I've woken up, looked at my laptop, and discovered that sometime overnight, Windows decided to update itself and restart. Without my permission.
I *thought* I had it set to always ask me first, but I guess maybe Microsoft changed my setting for me, sometime in a previous upgrade?
There are so many reasons I've gotta get off Windows, but this one is fucking infuriating. 😡

Why did i change to Linux? For freedom.
When win 7 was new everything seemed to be as I WANTED. I could change settings and uninstall things as i wanted.
Then win 10 came i was sceptical but still there was the old interface and options deep down some where.
And now Win 11...i can't even decide what parts of my OS i want to keep and to uninstall. With forced AI slop and online accounts win 11 is not for ME, i have become their product...
Not any more!

I'm actually quite happy to have full control over my laptop again. Many people would have probably thrown it away (it became too slow, memory problems, kept crashing, six years old,...) and bought a new one, again with the same old shit on it.
By removing Windows and installing Linux now it runs like a new one again. And with much more privacy and without supporting immoral tech billionaires. #FuckWindows #Microsoft #Linux #OpenSource -
