The last #episode of the #FreeThoughts #podcast about what we consider to be “natural” and whether natural is always good or preferable reminded me of my old #post about #Soylent and about the broader question of #natural vs. artificial:

Good early morning fedi! I hope you are OK.
I just realized why we the email analogy is bad for fediverse.
Can you imagine if in the 90s hotmail suddenly said, they don't like yahoo, therefore you can't receive any more email from yahoo addresses?
Because that's what happening right now with the fediverse.
Fedi maybe decentralized in the background, on the tech level. But communication and idea wise it is not decentralized. Let the users decide if they want to block others, on an individual level.
What's the worst thing can happen? Twitter-like blocklists? Or fediverse's very own Steve Shives, who blocks people even just by following other people he doesn't like? Now that would be funny actually. (Btw when I was on twitter many-many years ago, he blocked me. Never interacted with him, never followed him. All it took, I was following some people he didn't like.)

“There is an inherent tendency in #capitalism towards cronyism, and democracy enhances it. That means that capitalism is not sustainable in a #democracy, and those of us who defend #markets need to take that part of the argument from the left seriously. #Cronyism is not the opposite of capitalism. It is something that capitalism turns into in a political system that allows #freedom, and we should be worried about that. We should credit that as legitimate #criticism.”
