  1. I started working on my small-net browser / client again — named: SpaceMonkey.

    I got a Linux phone a while ago — the FLX1s.

So, I made it so SpaceMonkey would work on my FLX1s Linux phone by turning it (SpaceMonkey) into a GNOME Phosh + Linux app.

  6. An update on the wallet app I am creating for GNOME Phosh on Linux.

I am continuing to add support for Taler.

Here is what it currently looks like to add a Taler exchange.

(A Taler exchange is where you would get Taler coins from.)

(Some of the stuff in the screen will change. Such as the buttons at the bottom.)

  11. For the balances, the app groups the balances by currency (because I think it makes more sense to more people that way).

If you tap on the currency balance, then it shows the breakdown per Taler exchange.

  15. So far I have written a (mobile optimized) file manager app.

And, written a finger painting app for kids ages 3 to 5. (I have young children.)

    ....

There are other apps I plan to write, too.

  16. I got Linux phone a while ago — the FLX1s.

I started writing apps for it.

That was actually one of the things I liked about it. Making app for it is a lot easier than Android or iOS.

Native Apps on the FLX1s are just GNOME + Linux apps.

I could also use whatever programming-language I wanted — I chose the Go programming-language (golang).

You install "Aurora Store" from "F-Droid". It lets you install non-open-source Android apps. Ones that you cannot live without and cannot "get" any other way.

Again, yes, the FLX1s can also run (many) Android apps.

This is where you would look last, if you cannot find what you want in "Software" or "F-Droid".

"F-Droid" also comes pre-installed. F-Droid lets you install open-source Android apps.

Yes, the FLX1s can also run (many) Android apps.

You would install Android apps if you cannot find a native version or alternative in "Software".

This is where you would look second, if you cannot find what you want in "Software".

"Software" comes pre-installed. It lets you install native Linux apps.

This is where you would look first for any app, or app type, that you want or need.

Somewhat recently I switched to using the FLX1s Linux phone (from an Android phone).

The FLX1s is a privacy oriented phone, that is an open platform, built on open-source software, where I am in control of it.

One thing that I find makes using it better is — having these 3 app stores installed:

    • Software
    • F-Droid
    • Aurora Store

  21. I switched my phone somewhat recently — from an Android phone to a FLX1s Linux Phone.

I am an early adopter — so there are some rough areas, but —

I am largely happy with the phone.
Especially given that it is a privacy oriented phone, that is an open platform, built on open-source software, where I am in control of it.

One nice thing though — for the apps where there is no Linux alternative, you can run (some) Android apps on it.

  22. I visited the FuriLabs booth at FOSDEM 2026.

    ...

I showed them my FuriLabs FLX1s phone 🙂

    ...

I actually caused an issue with my FLX1s. @fakeshell on the @furilabs team fixed it!

    Thank you @fakeshell !!

    Awesome!

Loops may be available for and usable on the FLX1s Linux phone soon.

(The FLX1s is a non-Android (Linux) phone that can run some Android apps.)

  24. I wanted to connect a keyboard to my FLX1s Linux phone.

I first tried connecting a USB keyboard to it — but, I couldn't get it to work.

Others on the Furilabs Matrix / Telegram room suggested using a Bluetooth keyboard.

So, I purchased an inexpensive (CAD $13) Bluetooth key, and — it worked! 🙂

  25. There is pre-installed app on the FLX1s Linux phone that works well as a Matrix client app — Chats.

  26. It seems to take a while for the FLX1s Linux phone to notice it has been plugged into a charging cable.

  27. I was able to install NewPipe via F-Droid on the FLX1s Linux phone.

(Thanks to @Sturmflut for the suggestion.)

I will take a long time to (manually) transfer over all my subscriptions.

UPDATE: most of app seems to work, but I cannot watch videos — I either get a error or they don't play.

  28. I tried getting FreeTube working on the FLX1s Linux phone, but couldn't. At least, not so far.

It installs, but — it doesn't open.

  29. I was able to install the Tusky Mastodon Android client, using F-Droid, on the FLX1s Linux phone.

The FLX1s is NOT an Android phone, but can run some Android apps.

In fact, this post was using Tusky on the FLX1s Linux phone.

  30. The "Mobile Settings" app was a bit confusing when I first tried to use it.

It just showed me a more-or-less blank screen.

Eventually, when I swiped on the screen, it took me to a menu.

I think it should have shown me the menu immediately. (What was the point of the blank screen from a user-experience (UX) point of view.)

But, either way, I got it working. And, tweaked some things.

  31. F-Droid is currently a bit buggy on my FLX1s Linux phone.

It keeps on asking me to "Allow F-Droid to send you notifications?" over and over again, the bottom menu buttons cannot be tapped (what is under them gets tapped), and the search button cannot be tapped either.

Is anyone else also having these issue?

I assume they will get resolved eventually.

UPDATE: F-Droid started working all of a sudden.
