If I were bitter about how a certain "decentralized" social media initiative played out, and I wanted to contrast that effort with something truly decentralized, I might build a mesh-network messaging app.

At any rate I'm fascinated by #Bitchat. Especially since #Firechat sort of just disappeared during Covid.

You seem to miss the most important lesson: if #FireChat wanted to survive and be the tool revolutionaries, missionaries, and others can always rely on, it would have to be #OpenSource. It wasn’t. So, we have now only #Tor and similar craziness where you need at least a PhD in CS to use it.

(and yes, perhaps #NewNode, although I don’t see it on #FDroid, which makes it suspicious).

@av_01p по примеру Гонконга полиция не нашла типичного для спецслужб способа раскрыть анонимов просто потребовав у корпорации информацию. Так, что уровень анонимности телеграма достаточен для боевой ситуации для больших масс. Но правильнее было бы выбрать #briar, #tox, #firechat (сомнительно) и т.д.

Of these, only #Briar is free software (GPLv3-licensed), so only it can be independently verified for possible security and privacy issues. It is the only one of these three that are recommendable.

#FireChat and #Bridgefy are proprietary (non-free), therefore not trustable at all.
