Halfway through #FavCharacterAtoZ and I get another easy one.
#FavCharacterM? Street Fighter 6's Marisa is a top 3 character for me in terms of fun while playing her and also in aesthetics.
She's a giant, hulking italian jewelry designer whose fighting style is pulled from antiquity of classic greece and rome to make her this sort of proto MMA fighter. She's a true Brawler and I love her.
She's big and flirty in game, and half her quotes are innuendos.
"Taste my love! Take ALL of it!"
She blatantly propositions at least two characters, including series giant grappler Zangief, who responds with concern that her offer to "partner up" doesn't mean tag team wrestling...
So from a presentation standpoint, she's far and away my favorite part of Street Fighter 6 and a top 2 Street Fighter character for me, only in competition with Dudley (https://c.im/@NaClKnight/116801550872200497
She's also extremely fun to play, as evidences by mee sinking in probably 70-80% of my 800 hours in the game playing her. She's got this high damage, very linear, moveset that makes frequent use of armor and charging her heaviest moves by holding down the button. She's got a super parry, which I haven't gotten to use since Hakumen https://c.im/@NaClKnight/116921817939120601 and almost singlehandedly established me as the "big body enthusiast" among my fighting game friends.
She's got some issues with her moves that Capcom refuses to remedy, and I don't think they'll ever make her a top tier character for high level play, but that won't stop me from loving this big giant flirty gal, or from me putting tastefully thicc mods on her when I play.
This woman makes Street Fighter 6 fun for me, and I'm looking forward to hitting 1000 hours played because it means more of her.

M, the letter of brothers.
I was tempted to choose between Maedhros and Maglor, the two sons of Fëanor who most regretted swearing that oath yet still were driven by it to terrible deeds. They attacked Elrond's parents for a silmaril and took him and his brother captive, and soon thereafter stole the remaining two from the army of the Valar after Morgoth had been defeated, only to find for all the wickedness they had been party to they could no longer keep them. Maedhros, who had lost his hand escaping Morgoth, killed himself with a dive into magma, while Maglor wandered the coasts after throwing his away and singing sad songs.
But! Rather than choose between those two I shall pick Sherlock Holmes' famous foil, his intellectual rival, Mycroft. Ever since I read the stories I was fascinated by the notion that the great Sherlock Holmes had a brother who was more perceptive, more keenly deductive than himself, yet who did not make such an impact on the world because he would rather idle his days in his comfortable club than go out proving it.
And, yes, it is said that he did tremendous work for the British government, or even in moments of crisis was the British government. But how does he solve those governmental problems? Why, he tasks them out to his little brother, when I always believed he privately had the solution in mind but would rather give the puzzle to Sherlock than to bestir himself over it.
An intriguing figure. I like to imagine he prefigured the later pattern of Nero Wolfe and his legman Archie Goodwin. #FavCharacterAtoZ, #FavCharacterM -
For #FavCharacterM I have chosen the version of Mordred from Fate/Apocrypha.
She takes the form of a blonde yanki girl but is angered if anyone refers to her as a woman. She also has some strong issues about her father, Artoria (the A in this thread), whom she led a failed rebellion against at the battle of Camhlain and died before being resurrected by the throne of heroes as a Servant.
She is a fun character who can blow things up and has interesting armor.

#FavCharacterMMalcolm Tucker. He's the anthropomorphic personification of Alastair Campbell's spin, the hypocrisies of Westminster politics, and the self delusion that you can be inside the system and make it a force for good. And it all destroys him.

Okay, this is probably going to seem weird coming from me, the Escher Girls person, but my #favCharacterM is Momo Yaoyorozu from My Hero Academia.
I just love her concept (ability to create anything from her skin that she understands the workings & composition of) & that it means she has to be smart, creative, & knowledgeable in order to use her quirk effectively, so her brain has as much to do with her strengths as her powers. She has to study & learn to be able to create complex things.
She's also one of the few girls early in the story who got to do really cool things (and she was the only girl who was on the Bakugo rescue mission).
Oh & also she's so gay for Jirou it's not funny, & the creator has basically soft-confirmed they're canon through art & interviews.

@ami_angelwings Favourite fictional character under #FavCharacterM really has to be one individual for time travel lore.
It's not Miles O'Brien or Max Caulfield.
It's Marty McFly. Of "Back to the Future" the movie trilogy, the animated series, and the comic books.

I'm jumping back in because I had this character ready to go several letters back:
Hiyajo Maho, from Steins;Gate 0 (visual novel and anime).
Genius living in the shadow of another, greater (she thinks) genius. Dork. Ill-tempered mainly because her height and unkempt appearance makes people assume she's a child. Amazing at arcade racing games. Empathetic. Fiercely loyal and tenacious.

I was stuck among characters for #FavCharacterM in #FavCharacterAtoZ when while enjoying a glass of tequila, a clear winner emerged.
Princess Meredith "Merry" Gentry is a half human, half faerie private detective living in Los Angeles when her aunt, queen of the Unseelie Court, makes her an offer. Get knocked up and I'll make you my heir. In a race against her cousin, Cel, who would rather kill her. Merry attains power and reawakens the Fae lands in America.

@ami_angelwings This is difficult, becuse I like a lot of characters with M names. There's Mai the Psychic Girl, Mao Mao (Apothecary Diaries), and Madoka Kaname (Puella Magi Madoka Magica).
In the end, I have to go with Major Motoko Kusanagi (obviously an alias), because she had a huge effect on me and I love Ghost in the Shell. The Manga, the Movies, Stand Alone Complex. All good.
And at the center of all of it, is the Major. A competent, intelligent government agent who protects her team. She isn't without flaws though.
There is a lot of her dna in my own protagonists.

@ami_angelwings I have so many faves I *could* pick here, but for #FavCharacterM I'm absolutely going with:
Marika Kato, Captain of the space pirate ship Bentenmaru (okay, *slight* spoiler, she doesn't start the show in that job), from the anime series Mouretsu Pirates / Bodacious Space Pirates.
She's plucky and smart, but she's not the sort of anime lead who stumbles her way into success nor is she perfect from day one. She WORKS for her success and respect. Love this show. #FavCharacterAtoZ

@ami_angelwings I had kind of a hard time nailing any character down. I was close to going with Miles Morales (I like the character and I like how he’s not a hand me down Spider-man, he’s his own character. Not temu Parker.), but then I looked over and remembered.
One of the best shows of all time, imho, is Gravity Falls. The whole is just so well made it’s crazy. I feel no description can do it justice, go watch it is my only suggestion.
One of the main characters, one of the twins, is Mabel Pine. The main writer based the twins on him and his sister. The show was just so fantastic and it made an impact on me, so I decided to now the new dog Mabel. She turns 10 tomorrow and is every bit the terror that Mabel Pine is.
(A mostly white French Bulldog for anyone curious.)

@ami_angelwings There's a lot of really good M's but for me the answer is easy: it's Missile.
I can't get into too much detail because Ghost Trick is a mystery game, but suffice to say the first time you meet Middle, you'll be thinking, ‘o dam that's a heccin' good boi.’
And the he gets even gooder every time you meet him.
Unbelievable how good this boy is. You are not prepared. Absolute hero.

@ami_angelwings #FavCharacterAtoZ #FavCharacterM Matt Dillon, US Marshall of Dodge City, Kansas. I haven't watched Gunsmoke in dog years and I'm sure it's problematic in countless ways, but it was my Monday night fixation from the years of around 3 to 7 (the name of my cat, Miss Kitty, is an indication of this). My childhood obsession with the show got me into trouble more than once. My habit of tossing back a glass of Coke and slamming it down on the table like a shot glass resulted in a threatened Coke ban from my teetotaling Baptist mother. And around age 3 I smashed a perfectly nice child-sized rocking chair to pieces on the floor -- it had previously belonged to my aunt when she was a little girl -- because I'd seen it in bar fights at the Long Branch.

@ami_angelwings Maybe Mario withaout him the Nintendo world would have failed #Videogames #Nintendo #NintendoSwitch #Mario #Favcharacterm

@ami_angelwings I really can't get into why specifically for spoiler reasons, but my #FavCharacterM is Maruki from Persona 5 Royal and it's not close. Maruki's existence reframes the narrative in a way I find significantly more compelling, and the way he plays counter to the desires of the main party makes him deeply fascinating to see develop over the game as you get to internalize his perspective on the world around him. He's just unbelievably well constructed as a character

I've said that I watch anime as a dad. And I noticed it most strongly when I watched Totoro after becoming a father. Mei getting lost and people looking for her in the rice paddies, desperate, hit incredibly hard now.

#QuestionOfTheDay #FavCharacterAtoZ
Who is your favourite fictional character from any work whose name (if they only have one) or first name begins with the letter "M"?
Please include the series/work the character is from and why they are your favourite.
(Again, stuff like "Major" don't count unless it's a proper name & not simply a rank)
Include the hashtag #FavCharacterAtoZ and #FavCharacterM to it so that we can sort the answers easily.
NOTE: you can always participate in previous letters too (A-L). Or just do the ones you want. Their hashtags are #FavCharacterA #FavCharacterB, etc

Oh crumbs, for the upcoming #FavCharacterM I just realized that Mahiro from Onimai and Matsuri from Ayakashi Triangle are both Ms, so that adds to the competition with my other Ms like Momo Yaoyoruzu from My Hero Academia, Mike McDermott from Rounders, Maple from Bofuri and Mulan :|
