  1. “Language is the conscience of the race…”

In the middle of March, I hit a real groove with my reading, and I raced through the three Colettes, "Shriver", Yeats and Crispin in the same number of days as there were books... However, after finishing the Crispin, I confess I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to read next. I have, of course, any number of options on Mount TBR but the problem was deciding.

  3. The multilingual textures in Ezra Pound’s poetry emerge from a deliberate fusion of languages, histories, and cultural voices, creating a layered poetic form that challenges readers to engage across linguistic and temporal boundaries

  4. Ezra Pound fragments narrative continuity because he perceives continuity itself as suspect in a modern world marked by rupture and complexity.

  16. Is there anything worth reading in Pound's Cantos? If so, I haven't found it yet.

It seems he was a pompous a*hole who conned people into thinking his erudition was a form of art, when it was really the death of art. The lack of art or beauty in a world of stale, lifeless ideas.

  17. “Every time I look down on this timeless town
Whether blue or gray be her skies
    Whether loud be her cheers
Or whether soft be her tears
More and more do I realize that...

I love Paris in the spring time
I love Paris in the fall…”

The weather here in early November is varied and changeable. I have missed the heavy rain by luck. This sun on autumn leaves made me smile. It also reminded me of the transience of life…

  21. Honestly, if anyone wants to understand #EzraPound and unravel how a #poet becomes a fascist, all they need to read is his book, ABC of Reading. His illustrious ego is made quite clear. Brilliant, yes, but certainly he was never as brilliant as he imagined himself to be. One can only imagine it must have been a mighty internal struggle of an inferiority complex layered over a superiority complex.

In A Station Of The Metro

    The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.

  24. @chowleen @Elijahrempe

Since I was a teenager I've adored Ezra Pound's love poem "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter," after Li Po.

In later years I've been more aware of how — given the challenges of translation and the difficulty of any Westerner's seeing Chinese culture straight — unlikely it is that a Chinese scholar would find much to admire in the poem.
