That's exactly what happened. Labour didn't win; the 'Tories lost.

The UK electoral system guaranteed that people were afraid to vote other than Labour in case it allowed the 'Tories back into power.

@dstndstn @gwynnion Our voting system (first past the post #endFPTP) and various suppression of representation (#uncapTheHouse) , and voter suppression , and lack of campaign finance regulation, all work together to currently ensure no other parties can emerge.

2. Biden got a lot of votes in the 2020 General election, true, but impossible to say how many of those were FOR Biden as compared to votes AGAINST a 2nd term for one of the worst presidents ever. That comes down to our busted voting system ( #EndFPTP ), but it is what it is, and because of that you can't, with much seriousness, say that those votes should count as people voting FOR Harris.

1/3 of the vote gets you 2/3 of the seats. I think the new government will be an improvement but this just isn't right. People are praising Starmer for his brilliance when in fact Corbyn persuaded more people to vote Labour in an earlier election. In what world can #Starmer claim that #FPtP delivers "strong government"?

How many Prime Ministers has the country had in the last parliament? 'Strong and stable' May, 'narcissistic' Johnson, 'lettuce' Truss and now Mr Integrity 'liar' Sunak.

This system might initially give Starmer the power for which he yearns, but it won't last. When his authoritarianism and lack of vision disappoints the electorate, I doubt he'll make a second term.

Party primaries are a great candidates for moving to Ranked Choice Voting (#RCV). laws (mostly just rules?) governing in party voting are easy to change by the party themselves. This should be a no brainer IMO.

@galaxgal the number of people who didn't vote Bernie simply because they didn't feel like enough of the country would also vote Bernie despite fully agreeing with him gives me fuel for my #EndFPTP campaign

One of the few times in my life that marking my ballot down the party line has been an easy thing to do without googling. Even if a local Dem was an actual cannibal, why would I give the national Republican Party an ounce more power? My real preferences were recorded months ago during the primary, this is just a drop in the bucket against Actual Fascism.

And we don't have ranked choice voting here, so a vote for anyone but the top two is a vote for my worst choice. #EndFPTP
