Look who we saw on our afternoon ride today. The Reservoir kangaroo mob. Okay, Stage 12 #FRATL of 1.31am please @Sophoife

There are about a dozen kangaroos in two remnant natural grassland blocks in #Reservoir surrounded by houses. There is even a watch for kangaroos sign on the road bisecting the two blocks. This is suburban Melbourne.

@paulpeace Interesting. For a number of years I’ve visited the local populations of eastern grey kangaroos in my 5km radius of Fawkner, including the 9ha #NgarriDjarrang #Grasslands in #Reservoir surrounded by residential development. Numbers are steady at about one dozen Roos. One quiet road bisects the grasslands.

“After Sunday cafe-sitting Dad cycled us up to Northern Memorial Park where we watched the #MerribekMob of #EasternGreyKangaroos grazing. We held our bark! There were joeys too!
#UpfieldLine train passed.
These are the Roos that inspired Dad to ask questions in 2018 about a Council #Biodiversity Plan. The Council Nature Plan was subsequently developed and approved in 2020. Thanks Dad for making a difference on the #BiodiversityCrisis “

Hi, visiting my local kangaroo mobs in my 5km zone got me through and kept me sane through the 6 extended pandemic lockdowns in Melbourne during 2020 and 2021. Well, as well as my elderly Jack Russell!

I live in a middle northern suburb of Melbourne and could visit 5 separate mobs by bicycle for exercise and to connect with nature. I documented my visits on FB

I should also mention the #MorelandMob were the catalyst and inspiration for me asking questions about where was #Merribek Council biodiversity Strategy in 2018. Council subsequently developed a Nature Plan in 2020 incorporating a Council Biodiversity Strategy.
