We checked out around the new Balam Balam Place Arts precinct in Brunswick built by Merri-bek Council.
It features a huge mural - ‘Always’ - by Gamilaroi artist Riko Rennie.
There is a public open day on April 5.

There are about a dozen kangaroos in two remnant natural grassland blocks in #Reservoir surrounded by houses. There is even a watch for kangaroos sign on the road bisecting the two blocks. This is suburban Melbourne.

"Geez, the north bound lanes on the #craigieburnbypass is chockers this evening. This is what happens when you allow development of new residential suburbs on the northern periphery of Melbourne without extending the electric train service. The #upfieldline is waiting to be extended from Upfield to Craiguieburn and Wallan. All those people at risk of Vampires ... we kid you not."

Loquats on the #UpfieldBikePath . The Upfield Urban Forest is also a food forest. Dad stopped and ate some mulberries going south, then stopped and picked some Loquats while going north today. Figs are ripening too.

The post-apocalyptic giant mural at Brunswick Civic Square. With a dead No 19 tram, and bicycle on its side, the wreck of a car. Broken windows in the buildings with vegetation growing out of them. And a big male kangaroo heading down #SydneyRoad to the Town Hall building.
We wonder if this big buck kangaroo is from the #MerribekMob recolonising #Brunswick?Sadly no people in the mural. Where did you all go? Is this the civilisational collapse from burning greenhouse gases and the #ClimateCrisis and using plastics? Wake up humans. Without you, companion animals like us #chihuahuas won't survive either. Today we are supporting provision of accessible tram stops on Sydney Road before Brunswick SkyRail construction starts.
These really nice people turned up to do a banner and placard workshop in the Square opposite Brunswick Town Hall. We decided to do a selfie in support.🐶 🐶Launch of Transport Equity week starts 1pm Sunday 17 September, meet Wilson Ave/Sydney Road, Brunswick.

Cars, trucks and buses queueing across the pedestrian/cycling lights on Bell street at Coburg station scare us!!! But also the cars that run this red light only to go 20 metres and have to stop behind traffic at the next lights.!! So much disregard for vulnerable road users.

“Busy day today. First we attended a climate protest about #SafeguardOurClimate not polluters outside Labor MP Peter Khalil’s office and handed his staff the IPCC climate report, then we had coffee time with Dad’s friends at Wild Timor Coffee Shop, before cycling to Merri Food Hub in Fawkner to pick up some fresh produce. Then another cafe for Dad to have lunch. That was our day. “

Perfect spot on the #UpfieldBikePath and Union Street in #Brunswick. Staff were friendly, so we gave them a lick not a bite. We might come back here! “

“At last the Merlynston station bikepath is open again from the Shorts Rd crossing and Ararat Ave. But the tree plantings only go a short way. Where are the trees providing shade past the station, Dad? Don’t the landscapers understand #UrbanHeat and need for canopy shade given the #ClimateCrisis? No trees to Boundary Road. Sheeesh. “After Sunday cafe-sitting Dad cycled us up to Northern Memorial Park where we watched the #MerribekMob of #EasternGreyKangaroos grazing. We held our bark! There were joeys too!
#UpfieldLine train passed.
These are the Roos that inspired Dad to ask questions in 2018 about a Council #Biodiversity Plan. The Council Nature Plan was subsequently developed and approved in 2020. Thanks Dad for making a difference on the #BiodiversityCrisis “

“Dad took us to the dog park today where we had a good runaround. We thought he deserved an iced coffee at #CoburgMall after being such a great chauffeur. Coburg Night Market was less busy, but most of the bicycle parking hoops under Coburg Station were being used. Build #cycling infrastructure and people will cycle. We even saw a terrier on the back of a bike when going home”
