@spacelizard We had these for a while where I live in England.
They were great as long as you didn't need to be anywhere by a specific time.
They seem to be used here as a solution to rural public transport

#Penang’s sole #publicbus service provider, #RapidBus will unveil a service featuring #pooledride involving specialised #van with capacity of 12 passengers early next year as part of its efforts to encourage the use of #publictransport.

This is also part of the company’s role to curb congestion, which is seen as worsening, especially during peak periods.

The new service will be called the demand response transit (#DRT).

It was announced earlier this year that the state wants to eventually launch the service nationwide following a successful trial in #Puchong.

The first phase of the expansion will include three more zones, namely Ampang, Subang Jaya, and Bandar Utama/Damansara; to be implemented in November.
