New campaign, new notebook for the bedside table 😈

Experimenting with using tab groups to organize my encounters for tonight's Greyhawk '76 campaign.
All the monsters and NPCs are on D&D Beyond, and tonight's encounters have seven or so entries. That's a lot of tabs to be switching between (especially when you add in all the other tabs I'll open in game). #Greyhawk #GamePrep #DMPrep #DnD2024 #DnD5e

Really happy with this bugbear #mini! Going from bigger monsters down to this scale is a transition 🔍

We are 1.5 weeks away from my big birthday D&D weekend where I’ll be DM’ing my way through the epic finale of Dragon Heist and on to either Dungeon of the Mad Mage or maybe Shattered Obelisk, depending on which hooks my players go for. I’ve been having a blast prepping a little bit for both campaigns, and will probably share some more posts here about my prep. I’ll tag these posts with #dmprep if you want to follow along.

So I'm working on writing up an RPG quest for an Eberron game. I asked myself the question, who in a university would send adventurers grave robbing. And well, the better question is who in archeology wouldn't.
So the question changed to who's the funniest quest giver. And that's the grad student who needs physical evidence quick to support the dissertation they're defending.

I love #FoundryVTT and the Archives of Nethys for my #Pathfinder2e games, but for my next game, I'm including my old habit of copying monster stats onto index cards back into the prep process.
I can organize the information in the best way for me to digest it quickly. I can have a card separate from computer windows that doesn't get lost in the tabs and PDFs and shifting stuff.
I guess, bring a little pen and paper back to your pen and paper RPGs.

I don't think it gets talked about often enough how absolute fun it can be during #TTRPG prep to see a trope you enjoy and that you *know* your party will recognize and see right through, and instead of twisting it or subverting it, just leaning RIGHT into it.
This brought on by finding a goblin image with a measuring tape while I was looking for an 'informer' for another NPC and deciding yep, simple tailor. That's the one.

Bypassing the hard part of DMing (making your printer do the right thing) by getting large-format prints made at Staples 🫠

@slyflourish For in-person play: flat glass cabochons are cheap (e.g. $0.25 each), available at many hobby/craft stores, very durable, and you can write on them with wet- or dry-erase markers, or glue/tape art on their underside for a more polished look.

Are there any good options for a blank battle map (grid or hex is fine) that can take *dry* erase markers? Bonus points if it lays flat -- actually flat -- once unfolded/unrolled. I already have a ton of great dry erase markers for other purposes, so buying a mat that can make use of them would be great.
