Me in #DerailValley: okay I can afford the MU license, now how do I leverage that?
The three DH4 locos suspiciously chilling within my eyesight: -
Today in Derail Valley:
- Started off superbly by unloading and stowing my job from yesterday.
- Took on a new job taking railway sleepers to the harbour, which I did pretty well thank you very much.
- While unloading and stowing the cars for that job, accidentally loose shunted some tank cars, which promptly needed to leave as their home planet needed them.
- Took on a new job to the iron mine without refuelling, ran out of fuel 80% of the way there.
- Walked to the iron ore mine to grab a rescue locomotive, only to find that they didn't have anything on hand I'm qualified to drive.
Sounds like tomorrow's job to fix.

Today in Derail Valley:

So in my second day of driving a train in Derail Valley:
- I managed to reverse the incorrect consistency I'd hauled up a hill back to where it belonged and hooked up my locomotive to the actual correct consist.
- Drove my train to the completely incorrect location.
- Due to looking at the track diagrams for the correct location, plowed into a rake of empty cars at a high rate of speed, doing a ludicrous amount of damage to everyone.
- Once again failed to pull a consist up a hill, causing me to need to use a second locomotive to rescue it.
- Finally got to where I needed to go (and even managed to get the time bonus!)
Thank fuck for insurance.

Derail Valley would have to be the most genuinely fun rail simulator I've played. Career mode is great fun so far - lots of different jobs to do with a clear progression system to start slow and move on up.
My least favourite moment of playing is when I took the complete wrong consist for a job, was completely unable to get up a hill with in and had to propel backwards back into the sidings I came from 🛤️

Derail Valley would have to be the most genuinely fun rail simulator I've played. Career mode is great fun so far - lots of different jobs to do with a clear progression system to start slow and move on up.
My least favourite moment of playing is when I took the complete wrong consist for a job, was completely unable to get up a hill with in and had to propel backwards back into the sidings I came from 🛤️

People do weird stuff in their free time. I just drove a medium long virtual freight train through a fictional landscape for about an hour. Very relaxing. Escapism, probably.
I gave up model train stuff a long time ago, so this might be a replacement for that.
The game is called #DerailValley and seems to be a labour of love from a small serbian studio. Originally a VR Game, it plays well in non vr mode if you memorise the keyboard shortcuts. 🚂❤️

Many first-person #videogames have various movement modifiers:
- stand/walk (normal)
- run (often with always-on option)
- crouch/duck (~50% eye level)
- crawl (e.g. COD, ~20% EL)
- jump (short/long)
- slide
- lean (left/right)#DerailValley even has a variable sitting position (~60-85% EL).
But what I'm sometimes missing when trying to reach higher surfaces, is standing on tiptoes! It would be below jump height, slow you down, but holdable.
Does any game implement that?

Yesterday 2/3 of my triple-delivery went fine (HB→2×FRS→FM) until I had to split the 2 FRS trains. Forest South is a short yard with steep gradients on both sides. It started raining and I struggled getting the last part of the train up the hill again. Wanted to take a run-up from the northern tunnel; but train shot over, rolled all the way to Steel Mill. $500k damages; $65k copay. :blobcat_not_like_googly:

#DerailValley Nachdem mir gestern mein *hust* ungünstig am Berg abgestellter Zug im Bahnhof entgegen gerollt und in die Werkstatt gebrettert ist (dank Versicherung „nur“ $40k Eigenanteil, obwohl auch noch viele Verbrauchskosten für die 3 Loks anfielen, die ich brauchte, um den Auftrag abzuschließen… :blobcatfacepalm:), habe ich heute mit ein paar einfacheren Jobs ein bissl Kohle gemacht und gehe dann mal wieder die Reparatur meiner Museumslok an.
