"The Young Decadent. After the Ball," Ramon Casas, 1899.
This young lady seems a bit tired, but look closer. She's reading a book with a yellow cover, a sort of code that it's by a Decadent or sinful author. The Yellow Book was a periodical that featured Decadent writing. Yellow became associated with pulpy or extreme writing; in Italy there's a whole genre of slasher films called "giallo" or "yellow" with the same association.

After some false starts on this platform, I think I have it and I can make an #introduction. My working interests are #decadence and #decadents, notably #decadentwomen. My academic background is in #history, particularly #victorian; in #literature and in #biography.

Hi, I am a historian working mainly on subjects involving radicals, nationalists and people living against the grain. Most recently I have been working on #decadentwomen and the #decadents of the #findesiecle. Also interested in #ancientGreece and general aspects of #history
