It's kind of hard to imagine how high the Manawatū River got when #CycloneGabriel came through in February this year. Our river does change rapidly as the catchment is a large one with lots of tributaries.
If you look at the strange dark blob near the top of one of the willow trees overhanging the river, it's debris that lodged there in February... 🤔😮 -

My cartoon in today's @NZStuff & in print The Dominion Post and Waikato Times and syndicated across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Another devastating loss for people displaced by Cyclone Gabriel.

I herd a reporter say last night that some North Islanders think us South Islander's don't get the level of damage, as a CHCH person I do I get it when you see it on TV you only see it in front of you, living it were it's all around you in 360 24/7 can be crippling emotionally just know it dose get better and there are some of us who get what you're going thru.

85kg Great Dane, Hank, at HUHA’s stand up animal shelter in Auckland. Hank was heroically rescued by NZDF at Clevedon NZ.
Amazing work being done by our animal welfare organisations - backed up by Civil Defence & NZDF - rescuing farm & domestic animals across the Upper & Central North Island

I have to say shout out to our Civil Defense men & women from leadership down have done a pretty dam god job of making some tuff calls on shutting stuff down to minimize potential dangerous situations, it shows just how far our CD has come in the last couple of decades both reactive to proactive, I'd put them up against any CD world wide.
