Hmm. I read what #ContraPoints wrote about #Palestine on reddit and it seems to be written by someone who knows very little about the history of the racist ideology of Zionism.
It's OK to me that she thinks it would be inappropriate is she made a video on Palestine, that's fine.
But when she says criticism of Israel affects how people think of Jewish people as a whole ... I can only assume she's speaking for herself because she's not speaking for me in that respect.
It's a tepid, middling statement that implies that anti-zionists and people standing in solidarity with Palestine are mostly anti-Jewish racists or at least unknowingly nurturing that kind of racism. In that respect, her statement does some of Israel's propaganda for them.
She also laughably implies the US Democrats would have put pressure on Netanyahu to end the #Genocide after bankrolling it the entire time!

Good morning #Fediverse and welcome to Monday.
As I've been watching the unfolding drama over #Breadutube and #Contrapoints (non)statement about Palestine and Gaza, there's been many questions coming to mind on the entire phenomenon of 'content creation'. I'm particular intrigued by the Patreon model, about which I've got mixed feelings but can't truly articulate them. Does anyone know about study/research on 'Patreon economies' and can point them to me?

If we're finally trying to make sure we're not unduly silencing trans people now that Contrapoints is being critiqued, we can start by listening to the trans people (and particularly nonbinary trans folk, like myself) who've been talking about how vile and transphobic she is for *years*

OK, so a few people have vague posted about contrapoints saying something bad, but they haven't really said anything other than "it's a bad take" (which is also accurate and fine btw), but it makes it harder for people to see what the actual issue is. For archival purposes, I'm going to post what she said, because I'm personally not going to Instagram, and I regret having had to go to Reddit to learn as much as I did. I'm posting the screenshots of the instragram post she made about why she hasn't made a video on Palestine.
The reason her "takes are bad" are:
She says most jewish people are zionists, and I just think this is really antisemitic given what zionism means: apartheid at best, genocide at worst.
She is for apartheid: a state for only Jewish people aka "a Jewish state".
She blames the left for making her feel bad, because she has to look at dead children.
She blames the left for highlighting the genocide (and she blames Trump winning on pro-Palestine activists). She sees Kamala not winning as the reason she as a middle class white woman is under threat, when previously she would have been fine

For so long I've been a huge fan of Natalie Wynn (ContraPoints). I loved her video essays. I think she is incredibly smart and nuanced and her video essays are magnificent both artistically and intellectually.
But now comes this:

She has absolutely lost it. She admits that The State of Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza. She says she is angry about it. But she kept silent about it because... and then comes a long wall of text full of both-siding nonsense.
I don't know what's going on, but this is really bad. Et tu, ContraPoints?

I watched #ContraPoints about Incels and idk it's all so very convoluted and weird, but interesting that it's probably all to do with self-loathing and a need to seek out proof that, yes, they are inferior because the internet says so.
And it's interesting she draws parallels with being trans (or pre-trans).

10-15 years ago I already warned people about this upcoming #conspiracy bullshit that went beyond JFK, ufo's and 9/11. Formerly left wing people (like two of my neighbours) started to believe in chemtrails, Reptilian overlords, elite pedo rings, and the complete Q-anon franchise. Most of the time mixed with new-age 'spirituality'. A dangerous combination that gained to much power in this short period of time. They will probably call this in 100 years the start of a new world religion that started the Second Middle-ages.
