  1. #FYI #EliotJacobson #ClimateReanalyzer

    via Prof. Eliot Jacobson

"As of August 21st, global surface temperatures currently rank 3rd hottest since 1940, and likely third hottest in the last 120,000 years.

After consulting a dozen monkeys, the Climate 8-ball says, "Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble."

#ClimateReanalyzer is a data visualization website for #climate and #weather models and gridded datasets. Climate Reanalyzer is NOT a model. This "Daily 2-meter Air Temperature" page shows area-weighted daily means calculated from the 2-meter air temperature variable from the Climate Forecast System version 2 and Climate Forecast System Reanalysis, which are publically available products of the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction

  10. Soooo…. I was #procrasticoding and came up with this little app to put #GulfOfMaine buoy #SST (sea surface #temperature) in context like #ClimateReanalyzer, and I really like how it turned out. shiny.umb.edu/shiny/users/jarr

Also a great excuse to try out rerdapp’s tabledap() that I learned from @noaacoastalsci’ #coastwatch workshop. #rstats code repo here github.com/jebyrnes/gom_buoy_s

  12. Huge warm temperature anomalies over large parts of the #Arctic, including #Greenland, Alaska and northeastern Siberia (left figure, from the #PolarPortal).

Similar circulation patterns have prevailed for the last three months and will so at least for the next one or two weeks (right figure, data from #ClimateReanalyzer)
