'Climate Damages Tax': Fossil fuel levy could raise $720bn to tackle climate crisis

"The report proposes that OECD countries, and in particular members of the G7, should take a lead in introducing a fee per tonne of CO2 embedded (CO2e) within the domestic extraction of coal, oil, and gas."

It advocates for 80% of the proceeds to be transferred to a Loss and Damage Fund for assisting developing countries, 20% for domestic communities.

Trudeau says there will 'absolutely not' be further carbon tax exemptions | CBC News

This is the poorest judgment Trudeau has ever shown.

He's done lots of things I disagree with but I always thought he was good at calculating political fallout.

This was utterly foolish. He has cemented Poilievre's win in the next election; a disaster for Canada and the world.

So today I found out that if you're in the US, Citizens' Climate Lobby has an easy pre-written form that you can use to send to your Representatives to urge them to support the Energy Innovation Act, which puts a price on carbon. Large corporations contribute far more to climate change than any consumer could ever hope to, so I'd highly urge anyone to take a few minutes to send a few emails off:

Outgoing head of Financial Stability Board calls for a global #CarbonFee to give banks a #climate price signal.

Nice.
But #WeDontHaveTime for such a fee to get installed. Such talk is climate #delay, just what climate deniers want to see.

Banks don't need such a price signal. They just need to look at the #ClimateRisk honestly ("fiduciary duty", anyone?) and act accordingly.
