  1. @jfmezei I don't think that's fair to Mr. Guilbeault. My interpretation of his actions is that he decided the Transmountain Pipeline Expansion was a necessary evil in order to bring in the #CarbonTax. He was ready to make that compromise, but left cabinet once #MarkCarney zeroed out the tax and made it clear that more pipelines were likely.

So Trump has managed to bring in a carbon levy for the world except instead of providing funds that government's could use to support the transition to renewable energy sources it's just going to make a bunch of rich people richer. :/

  12. Higher Fuel Prices

Since 1980, I believed that a hefty tax on fuel would reduce the effects of fossil fuel consumption. Make the price higher, people use less. Classical economics.

I even joined a political party to help move this tax forward.

  13. How Europe’s new #carbontax on imported goods will change global trade – and our shopping habits - theconversation.com/how-europe "EU-based importers will pay for the greenhouse gases emitted during the production of certain carbon-intensive materials."

  14. @AlisonCreekside His gleeful cancellation of the #carbontax was a red flag. Nothing has been good or decent since.

  15. @3TomatoesShort

Oh. Let's not have progressive taxation?
    No #MiningTax, no #CarbonTax, no #MillionaireSuperTax?

Let's bleed the PAYG punters dry instead and keep using unlawful and not-fit-for-purpose ways of kicking leaners on benefit payments?

  16. @Snoro
This is more or less what I expected from the Carney ministry: after all, cancelling the consumer #CarbonTax was one of the first actions they took.

That said, I am surprised by the degree to which Liberal MPs and cabinet ministers are going along with this without complaint. It was strange seeing Liberal MPs boast about how they were lowering gas prices after they had been proud of bringing in the carbon tax.

  17. "Carney’s Liberal government has ticked one item after another off the #corporate lobby group’s to-do list: scrapping the #carbontax (which the Business Council previously supported as a necessary price to pay for #pipelines) and the #capitalgains tax hike; fast-tracking resource extraction projects and weakening #FirstNations’ rights and #environmental regulations; and massively expanding military spending while announcing the deepest spending cuts in a generation." canadiandimension.com/articles

  18. @JustinDerrick the idea was designed from the start to facilitate fraud. If the honest intention had been to tackle #ClimateChange, we'd have implemented #CarbonTax and used the proceeds to build public zero-carbon infrastructure.

  19. At the BOK International Conference, experts warned that climate transition policies such as carbon taxes could force central banks to choose between higher inflation and lower potential growth, highlighting a complex policy trade-off for monetary authorities.

  20. “The #carbontax has added more than 17 cents per litre to #gasoline in most #provinces, so drivers should see an immediate drop at the pump when the new rate takes effect on April 1.

“Households using #naturalgas or #heatingoil can also expect lower monthly bills. A new report by Desjardins Economics predicts the price of natural gas will fall 12.8 per cent between March and April.”

Here's what will be cheaper after carbon tax cut on April 1

  21. Do you know how much you save driving an #EV?

Instead of $500 a month in fuel, it would be about $50 by charging from home.

So how much carbon tax is in $500 of fuel? In BC $0.18 per litre. With the cost of fuel at $1.80/l that's $50.

But if you #DriveElectric you will only pay $50 in total!

If you really want to reduce the #CostofLiving switching to #Electric is the way to do it. Not cutting the #Carbontax
