Jeff "never puts away anything, especially oven mitts" Cliff, Bringer of Nightmares π¦π π±π§π§― π¨π¦ @[email protected] Β·The crisis in october 1970, and throughout 1971 was one thing ...but it turns out there was also some big riots in 1969 in montreal as well:
from #canadianspaces :
"On october 7th [1969], the day of the montreal policeman's strike, the MLT (mouvement de liberation du taxi) and sympathizers attacked the murray-Hill garage. Murray-Hill is the company which enjoys the monopoly for passenger service between the airport and downtown. The demonstrators burned several busses. The son of the owner, Hershorn, ordered his employees to guard the garage and fire into the crowd if necesary. The employees , guarding from the roof and the windows, did exactly that. Several demonstrators were wounded and one was killed. The fatality turnd out to be a certainDumas of the Provincial Police, an agent provacateur disguised as a demonstrator. The inquest into his death concluded that it was impossible to determine who had killed him. This protection of Hershorn and his hired killers is a striking example of justice - Mr. Hershorn belongs to the class that makes the laws, and makes them for its members. 'Justice' accepts the fact that a bourgeois defends his property by shooting people. Bourgeois property has priority over human life."
What's also interesting is this event doesn't seem to have made its way into wikipedia, and the articles I've read from the top 10 results on ddg / searx / google.
I wonder if the french side remembers this event better.
