  1. Posting this here in the hope we can reach a few #authors on #bookstodon ... We now have authors participating in Fiction Fest from every part of Canada except Newfoundland & Labrador, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. We're still accepting sign ups from all provinces/territories, but If you are a Canadian author living in any of those 3 places, we would especially love to have you join us in our summer showcase.

This is a completely online/virtual event and it already has a really good mix of tradpub, indie and hybrid authors signed up. It comprises of a book showcase and author gallery, plus a roster of live author readings and discussion panels.

It's free to join, you don't need to provide copies of your books, and this is a grassroots cooperative effort that has all of us working together to shout out each other's books and #CanLit in general.

We are also accepting #Canadian illustrators of graphic novels and picture books (even if the text of the book they illustrated is not written by a Canadian).

Check out our Author FAQ for more details! ** Submissions close on May 1st. **

  2. I played a couple of sessions of #Runequest last weekend at #Cancon, and it got me thinking about methods and furniture needed to run the game.

@MarkMWrites ran one of those sessions. Two things stood out to me. Firstly, he has a keen ear for rising tension, and—I’m not sure I can put it any other way—it informs how he conducts his players like an orchestra. It’s surreal to watch him do this, not least for the intensity it brings to a game.

  7. Today’s Oscar nominee announcement includes several Canadians across many categories.

As an animation fan, I’d like to draw amplify the contributions of two Canadian institutions that have been nurturing Canadian animators.

    - National Film Board of Canada received its 79th nomination for funding *The Girl who cried Pearls*

    - two graduates of Sheridan College in the Great Toronto Area received nominations as writers and co-directors of best animated feature (*KPop Demon Hunters* and *Elio*)

  9. Hey fans of ‘North of North’!

To celebrate the announcement of the show’s renewal for season two, CBC has put together a compilation of season one’s funniest moments.

(If you haven’t yet caught the show on CBC Gem or Netflix, now would be a good time. :packetcat_wink: )
