The holotype was found in the late 1800s in Quarry 13 at Como Bluff, Wyoming.
In 1889, Othniel Marsh described it as a new species, Morosaurus lentus
In the 20th century it was found to be the same species as one named by his rival, Edward Drinker Cope.
This resulted in Morosaurus lentus being renamed to Camarasaurus lentus.

terrible lizards, by @dave_hone and @iszi , has released a wonderful interview with Dr. Rebecca Hunt-Foster, paleontologist and curator at the US Dinosaur National Monument.
@dantheclamman , there are freshwater clam fossils in in the quarry with all those dinosaurs, but there are apparently no fish fossils! What the heck!

In 2022, the Korean translation of Locked in Time (by Dean R Lomax & published by Columbia University Press) commissioned me to colourise my 50 greyscale illustrations. Here's "The Formidable Opportunists," an Allosaurus pack tearing apart a rotting Camarasaurus.
