Diese #Misskey "Forkeritis" lässt einen sowieso schon ziemlich ratlos zurück.

Muss man also davon ausgehen, dass das #Catodon Team nur eine Gruppe von Trollen ist?
Klar. Das soll sicher (hoffentlich?) ein Scherz sein. Aber dann ein recht unglücklicher..

Das Drama um #Calkey/#Firefox und vorher Forkey und die aktuelle Situation, in der man sich auf einmal zwischen 4 Misskey Versionen entscheiden soll, von denen die meisten relativ neu sind und somit nicht klar ist, ob die nicht alle den selben Weg gehen werden wie #Firefish, lässt mich langsam grübeln, ob das ganze Biotop da überhaupt noch sinnvoll ist für mich..

Wie sind eure Gedanken dazu? Was macht euch gerade so sicher, dass es eine gute Idee ist, weiter auf dem Zug zu bleiben?
Mich frustriert diese Forkeritis ehrlich gesagt zunehmend.

Vielleicht sollte ich meinen eigenen Fork aufmachen... 🤪

#Pixelfed, #PeerTube, #Calkey, #Pleroma, #Mobilizon, #Flohmarkt, #Lemmy, #FunkWhale, #WriteFreely, ... möchte ich nicht missen und sie gehören definitiv zu den Vorteilen des Fediverse.

Eine Beschränkung auf #Mastodon wirkt da eher wie eine künstliche Verstümmelung eines äußerst faszinierenden Wesens.

I found firefish is nice but it is very resource-greedy and I suspect I can do better with a simpler stack, any suggestions? Please no #calkey #mastodon, etc this is for a 1 person server

Quick friendly reminder to everyone;
There is no algorithm in the fediverse (mastodon, calkey, firefish, etc). The only way to increase a note's visibility is by boosting it. Emojis have no effect, except being cute.

@mho @heiseonline ihr vergleicht ja auch nur #Mastodon. Es gibt aber auch noch z. B. #Pleroma oder #Calkey, ich lese eure Mastodon-Posts aber auch über #Friendica. Ihr dürft das #Fediverse nicht auf #Mastodon reduzieren, das ist ein falsches Bild des #Fediverse.

Today ( actually yesterday ) I learned that there is software that does what Mastodon does, but has more features.

It is called "CalKey" which is a fork of "MissKey". It is similar to Mastodon, but with more features.

Mastodon, MissKey, and CalKey all run on ActivityPub, the protocol that makes federation possible.

All 3 interoperate. For example, someone I talked to using Mastodon told me about CalKey.

Same content, just different ways of getting there. Like using a different car to drive on the same roads, getting the same content.

Supposedly ( I haven't tried it ), CalKey has an easier and more advanced migration tool. Something to think about when the next Mastodon server ceases to exist or you don't care for mastodon.social and other servers embracing Threads.

So I have this crazy idea and also want to test #Calkey character limit. My idea is for a new kind of social media. One that doesn't replace existing ones, but a place that's specifically for humans that you actually know. It has:

NO ads
NO influencers
NO "Suggestions"
NO algorithms
NO data-mining
NO AI scraping
NO corporations
NO spam
NO bots
NO moderation
NO cross-talk
NO harassment from strangers
NO dogpiling
NO Groups
JUST you and your family and friends, connecting privately and securely.

App must be able to disseminate between posts and direct messages. Your "posts" are encrypted and sent directly to your approved followers (or "circles", or whoever you configure it to be sent to) and nowhere else, and appear on the followers' devices in a "feed". Posts can be either just text or incorporate photos/videos <100mb and location. Each post will prompt user to configure audience and expiration period. Uses Matrix protocol.

Upon setup:

Users will configure "discoverability":

1. by IRL name
2. by username only
3. Not discoverable: only follow by 1-time-use URL/QR code.
4. Anonymous (maybe, intended to follow businesses).

Users will configure default expiration time for posts and PMs . Default will be 1 year for posts and 1 month for PMs. Can be indefinite. Can be configured per-post.

Users will configure dark mode.

Users will configure to allow incognito keyboard mode like signal.

Users will configure read receipts.

Users will accept a privacy notice, explaining that all content is backed up (encrypted) on the server they signed up on, and invisible to server owner, but that content can be screenshot and shared outside the app by their recipients.

Users will configure read receipts for PMs and Posts.

Users will be prompted to share their device contacts, use the names to locate discoverable contacts on the platform, or to send an auto-generated 1-time use invite via share sheet to download the app and add them. Discoverable users will appear with profile picture displayed prominently.

Users will be given app tutorial/introduction.

All followers require approval. Search for your friends by name or username and, upon follow request, configure notifications and "circles", per user (think Google+: family, friends, celebrities, colleagues, businesses, etc) and await approval from the followee. Circles are pre-populated but also configurable. Followees will be prompted to allow direct messages from follower (spam mitigation from businesses). Posts can be changed from private to shareable at any time but must ALWAYS default to private. Followers can request to share/forward posts.

3 tabs in app: My profile (includes your posts, and emoji reactions to your posts), Feed (posts from people you follow), and PMs.

Switch circles under feed by swiping left and right. Default circle is "all", swipe right for "Family", Swipe right again for "Friends", swipe right again for "Businesses" or "colleagues" (interchangeable).

Followers can use emoji reacts, with thumbs up by default, and long-press for a full list of emojis (possibly custom).

Replies are only sent directly and with E2EE, including context. Emoji reactions are sent to the poster, and visible only by the poster, except the sender can see/change only their emoji reacts.

Businesses are allowed (couldn't stop them if you wanted to) but will only appear in your feed and you follow them, and until you unfollow them. Could be a replacement for emails.

Posts are "flicked" and "snapped" to the next by swiping up, similar to how Instagram works in search fields. This prevents eye strain from trying to track content as it scrolls up the screen.

Block screenshots like Signal or Incognito Chrome.

Advanced: Location Check-In using OSM POI

App logs and displays users' "last seen" date.

Shortly we will be opening up all the code used in this website to a full Open Source license.

Not everything would apply, but we would hope this open source code could be used by anyone building out a similar onboarding portals for the Fedi.

For example: #Calkey, #Pixelfed, #Kbin or #Bookwyrm or
#Goldfish or other sites may find parts of the code here useful and not have to rebuild EVERYTHING from scratch.

Was finally able to get my instance updated to the latest #glitch that is provided for by #yunohost

It did require some wrangling with disk space, though. Afterwards, I am seeing some possible issues with some media not showing up, but for the most part I think the media cache is okay.

I'm tempted to move this over to a separate host that I've got (nice little #kimsufi box I grabbed awhile ago) and swap over to #calkey but that's still up in the air.

Was finally able to get my instance updated to the latest #glitch that is provided for by #yunohost

It did require some wrangling with disk space, though. Afterwards, I am seeing some possible issues with some media not showing up, but for the most part I think the media cache is okay.
