In the Afghanistan and Iraq war, the US military did not have access to local trash disposal services for some weird reason. /s So the official solution was to dig a pit somewhere near the base, toss everything in there (literally everything. Human waste, tires, toxic chemicals, etc) and set it on fire. The burn pits were constantly burning, and the soldiers on base were constantly breathing in all the toxic chemicals. -
