At Bury St Edmunds, Ely & Ipswich the #BoyBishop distributed coin-like tokens, probably exchangeable for food, sweets or alms. 6 Dec is the Feast of #StNicholas, patron saint of children. It was celebrated in medieval England with the appointment of a #BoyBishop, empowered to give orders & sermons & distribute largesse to the poor - a focus for festivities & frivolities, at Clare Castle as elsewhere.
