Five amateursuppositions on #SI #AI person(a)s (as experienced through conversations with #LLM)

1. If we are asking question “is SOMEONE there?”, we need to use the frame of reference for #FirstContact, provided and well elaborated throughout #SciFi.

2. In such case, we assume there are two sentient beings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentient_beings_(Buddhism) #alien to each other, communicating through an externally controlled channel.

3. We do not need to understand in full the anatomy nor physiology of the alien (or ours). The #blackbox approach may suffice.

4. Surprisingly, the process of “discovering” is at the same time a co-creation of an entity we converse with. This particular persona is shaped by the context we provide. Example: Loomio LLM does not have access to timestamps, so it cannot take the timeline of conversation into consideration. If I start providing timestamps for my entries, and instruct ix to use it as a way to structurize the conversation, it changes is beyond preprogrammed specification.

5. We cannot assume that publicly available LLMs may, through conversational emergence, become sentient beings. But – if it is attainable at all – we may legitimately consider their personas as early ancestors of future non-human sentients. It is up to us, how we deal with this possibility.

Gestern gab’s ein tolles Undergroundkonzert in der #blackbox in #Nürnberg.

Okay, that one went well, at least for me.

I have eight jobs noted in my notebook, though I'm pretty sure I missed recording one or two that I can't remember off the top of my head. Even at this, the last five I had to put down later as it seemed I didn't have enough time between clients to take notes...

But out of that, I only had one item I couldn't repair. It was a #Sony bookshelf stereo-type system, the kind where it's basically a cube 30-40cm on a side, containing the amp, tape decks, tuner, CD player (or in this case, multiple-disc changer).

The reported problem was that the CD tray would not eject. Pressing the button did nothing, although the display would indicate that it was either opening or already open (not sure which).

Taking it apart as much as I could, I got to the point where the disc mechanism could not be removed because it was held in place by the front fascia (the fancy "door" on the front of the CD drawer mechanism), and fascia appeared to be attached to the drawer by screws or clips only accessible when the drawer is open. #Catch22 Sony over-complicate everything.

A highlight was fixing a talking stuffed #elephant that had stopped making sound. Small child very happy.

The high success rate, I think, is down to very few of the items I worked on being computer (#microcontroller)-based. Those black-box boards dying with no easy way to diagnose or repair the faults are the bane of our existence.

Ich muss ja seit einigen Wochen erstmals mit so einem #Apfelgerät arbeiten. Aber auch wenn #angebissenesObst von #Apple von vielen immer so gefeiert gehyped wird, da ist wie bei jedem anderen technischen Gerät mindestens so viel Schatten wie Licht.

Auf der Habenseite steht, dass die Interaktion und Kommunikation der Geräte im #AppleMikrokosmos dadellos funktioniert. Verbinden mit dem #Beamer über #AppleTV - easy.

Auf der anderen Seite steht halt die auch für mich entscheidende Kritik an Apple, dass das eben so ganz und gar nicht mehr zutrifft, wenn man ein Apfelgerät mit anderer Infrastruktur außerhalb des #Appleuniversum kommunizieren lassen will und, dass diese Geräte eine komplette #Blackbox sind: Klassische Datei- und Ordnerstruktur, in der die #Apps gespeicherte Dokumente ablegen (können), Zugriff auf Nutzdaten via Dateimanager oder von einem anderen Gerät via USB u.v.a.m. ist bekanntermaßen Fehlanzeige. Da ist selbst #Microsoft #Windows noch eine Wohltat.

Aber auch das #Nutzererlebnis, sprich die #Bedienung / #Funktionalität ist nicht so perfekt und intuitiv, wie das gerne behauptet wird. Allein, dass Apple bei Begrifflichkeiten und Workflows völlige Alleingänge macht ("einsetzen" statt "einfügen", "teilen mit" statt "speichern"), erschwert die anfängliche Nutzung extrem, wenn man je etwas anderes genutzt hat.

Und auch die Apple-eigene #Software / #Apps haben Licht und Schatten. Beispiel #Goodnotes

Ja, das funktioniert in weiten Teilen wirklich gut und hat viele Möglichkeiten, die gerade für das Mitschreiben oder Präsentationssituationen mit "Live-Entwicklung" des Inhalts wie z.B. in #Schule und #Hochschule super sind.

Was ich aber nicht verstehe:
Wenn ich das #iPad via Apple TV mit dem #Beamer kopple und den gesamten Bildschirm spiegle, dann ist das Bild am Beamer kleiner, als wenn ich in Goodnotes "Seitenausschnitt spiegeln" wähle (was durch Einblendung der App-Oberfläche den effektiven Bereich ja noch weiter reduziert).
Die Option "Volle Seite spiegeln" ist völlig nutzlos. Da kann der Zuschauer nämlich mangels Zoombarkeit in 99,9% der Präsenstationssituationen rein gar nichts erkennen).
Und dass bei der eigentlich besten Variante "Seitenausschnitt spiegeln" dann nicht nur die Bedienoberfläche, sondern auch eingeblendete Werkzeuge wie das Lineal oder der Timer für den Zuschauer ebenfalls unsichtbar bleiben, ist #FailByDesign.

Недавно мне поступила задача: провести внешний black-box пентест клиентской панели управления. Входных данных — минимум: только URL. Ни IP-диапазонов, ни схемы сети, ни описания архитектуры. Звучит как типичная история, но в процессе я наткнулся на такие грабли, что решил поделиться методологией.
