Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #birdringing, aggregated by home.social.

  1. May: Some more #birding. The woodpecker chicks are always noisy.

June: Trip to #Warsaw and #Masuria with the family. My Partner competed in the Crossminton world championship in Warsaw so we took the opportunity for an extended stay. First time. Will come again.

July: More birding and first time seeing and hearing Bee-Eater.

August: The top birding highlight of the year with the #BirdRinging seminar in the Ore Mountains area.

  2. Recently I attended a #BirdRinging course and want to learn more about #birds #biology and #ecology

I also do some sound work and was lucky to produce a short audio documentary with a friend of mine for Deutschlandfunkkultur (hoerspielundfeature.de/doku-dr)

I also organize and give #workshops about #fieldrecording and #acoustics in general.

I mainly post in english but sometimes also in german depending on the content I share.

So that's all for now. To good toots everyone.

  3. Seeking wisdom from anyone familiar with bird banding and experience with reporting a bird band number… more specifically, I would like to know if it’s possible to report a partial number?

The backstory: I've been observing a family of Swainson’s hawks in our neighbourhood for the last 9 years. A new male replaced the patriarch in 2023. He is banded.

Despite my best photographing efforts, I have only confirmed the last 5 digits of the number, plus one other digit for sure (but unsure of its position). He will surely be leaving soon on his epic migration to Argentina.

I would love to know his story. Am I out of luck?

  10. Public service announcement to all small birds - if you fly in to watch a group of bird ringers at their processing station you are likely to get some new bling... Our 4th Black Redstart ever to be ringed at Gatwick, and by far the most obliging 😂 All birds ringed under licence #BiodiversityGatwick #birdringing #btobirdringing #birding #wildliferecording

  15. Met a #turnstone with a bit of bling during this morning’s #2minutebeachclean
The fog & grey skies didn’t help my bridge camera out. Have managed to identify some of the details. The ring appears very worn. Hoping we’ll meet up again tomorrow. #birdringing #waders #birds #Norfolk

  16. Shortly after an out of control black & white #GreatDane tried to knock me over on #Overstrand beach, one of my favourite things happened….we spotted a ringed bird on the sea defences. I managed to get a pic with my bridge camera. We returned home, I cranked up my Mac, read the ring & reported a magnificent #GreatBlackbackedGull
    #birdringing #Norway #ornithology . #Norfolk #NorthSea #simplepleasures

    Fascinating creatures.
