  3. Autumn migration already! 🙂
Two of the six Black-tailed Godwit feeding at South Walney yesterday.
They resolutely refused to get together for a group shot.

  5. Ringed Plover nest updates, I thought there were only two chicks from the recently hatched nest, but saw three last night :-)
In the adjacent bay the three there look to be fully (or almost) fledged. My last day here, keep safe little ones.

  7. When it's a cold and windy morning you need to snuggle up. Count the legs on the first pic of the Ringed Plovers. Almost certain that there are only two in this brood.
    Rhinns of Galloway.

  9. Late night noisy Oystercatchers on a rock pile.

I had always associated this species as a coastal wading bird (especially in Winter, as I used to be part of the Dee Estuary Wader Watchers to stop their disturbance at high tide by dogs off their leash, a vital period that they need to not be on the wing).

This is a rock pile on the edge of a farmers field in Angus near the Cairngorms.

  11. Spot the Plover competition time.
Ringed Plover on the nest, this is next to the main track, there are many more isolated small bays in the area which I will not be visiting.
    #DoNotDisturb
*To make it easy, Plover is centre of frame.

  13. An Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) ran/bounced up my driveway and then decided to jump on top of the giant tree stump that is waiting to be chainsawed and call out for over 10 minutes straight then flew back to the field next door where it is nesting. Photo taken through glass window.
If you would like to hear the call the RSPB have a recording on their site rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife

  15. Going with the Alt theme of #Waders for today's #BirdoftheDay and a Marbled Godwit seen on our walk this morning. It would make a good sun-dial with that long bill. #Birds 🪶 #ECK

  16. One of the main reasons I was out on the Estuary today was to check the Ringed Plover nesting area, and yes, there is a bit of competition going on between the males. A female was to right of frame.

  18. Waders Descend on Harper’s Island

It was my first time visiting Harper’s Island and unfortunately no birds came anywhere near any of the hides, but I loved to see flocks of birds swoop through the air in synchronised flight....
