I use #Obsidian as an external brain (#basb) which is filled with project notes. It serves as a reference system for getting things done #gtd.

It has proven invaluable to log action items, capture personnel info, and recurring checklists. 3 plugins of extreme usefulness are Tasks, dataview and templater

Sometimes progress means going backwards.

I met Tiago's BASB in 2020. During the cohort, I had built a working system around Evernote. The motto was: Take something simple that works.

It was great.

But then came a disastrous new version of Evernote. And a misguided communication and pricing policy. And so many promising alternatives.

Being the curious kid that I am, I jumped on them.

Confession: CodeMacLife is a system I have been working on since June 2023.

I ran it in conjunction with the PARA method to see what suited me with working in the education sector (+ personal circumstances).

I am committing myself to it this year to iron out overseen issues.

I’ve been reading “Building a Second Brain” by Tiago Forte via my Kindle. I’ve been following him on YouTube and have adopted his PARA method. Moved all my notes from Evernote to Apple Notes earlier this year and just learned that read.google.com will show me all my highlights from Kindle books. Cool! @publicvoit @brunoarine Not sure if you're arguing for these things (which are good points) in the correct discussion. The #BASB approach, more or less, depends on e.g. WIP project folders. Not long-term filing.

Nich ganz #NeuHier im Fediverse (seit 2018) aber #NeuHier auf dieser Instanz.

Da ich aber noch nie wirklich eine Vorstellung von mir geschrieben habe, hole ich das jetzt mal nach.

Ich interessiere mich für allerlei Dinge. Unter anderem führe ich seit diesem Jahr ein #BuJo und versuche mein #SecondBrain nach den Methoden von #BASB in #Obsidian zu erstellen. Manchmal versinke ich auch in irgendwelchen Produktivitätsmethoden oder #GoodWork , da mir meine Arbeit doch recht viel Spaß macht 😅

Bin offen für allerlei Gespräche. Schreibt mir einfach!

3. #CODE in #BASB stands for (C)apture, (O)rganize, (D)istill and (Express). All my knowledge I capture into #orgroam through capture templates. This allows quick capturing of thoughts and ideas and will put it into my "inbox" of thoughts, which is just a tag in #orgroam. Creating a few templates for your regular use cases already helps a lot. See: https://www.orgroam.com/manual.html#The-Templating-System

But so far, nothing like that has yet worked for me. I keep trying things but I kind of have my own SHIT (Stuff here 'n there). When I see enough of the same type of things I try to pile them near each other and build something that funnels those similar things into those piles automatically.

This is the way.

I don't think I've posted about it anywhere else yet, so I'll mention it now.

I'm diving back into #OrgMode as my PKM of choice. It felt like most of the other apps today, evn if they support plaint text as a backend, have so much web tech sandwiched in between it was hard to actually change anything... and change is #emacs middle name.

It's funny because before I took Tiago's #BASB class the first time, I was on #OrgMode, but I ventured through several others before coming back.

Wäre es nicht großartig, wenn man alle Ideen und Gedanken, die man nicht vergessen und eventuell auch noch in ein paar Jahren wieder verwenden möchte, einfach aus dem eigenen Gedächtnis auslagern könnte. TIL: Bis eben gerade bin ich davon ausgegangen, dass die Methoden von #BASB 🧠 (Building a #SecondBrain ) in konkurrenz zu den Methoden von #BuJo 📓 stehen.

Der Sinn und Zweck beider Methoden ist aber ein gänzlich anderer!

Ich schmeiße gerade wieder alles um, bekomme aber immer mehr das Gefühl es zu verstehen bzw. für mich sinnvoll zu nutzen 🤯

I’ve been playing around with #Obsidian for a couple of months, but I think I'm doing it wrong. Came mainly from Evernote and am not really doing much linking. Does anyone have a simple explanation of how they use [[links]] versus # tags?

Edit to add context: I've taken #BASB but the folder structure has never felt convenient to me. Thinking that I can make things flatter with Obsidian?
