  1. I never get bored of reading Tiago Forte’s PARA method book to keep myself focused on how my system matures and why I am doing what I am doing.

  2. @octothorpe
I use #Obsidian as an external brain (#basb) which is filled with project notes. It serves as a reference system for getting things done #gtd.

It has proven invaluable to log action items, capture personnel info, and recurring checklists. 3 plugins of extreme usefulness are Tasks, dataview and templater

  3. Confession: CodeMacLife is a system I have been working on since June 2023.

I ran it in conjunction with the PARA method to see what suited me with working in the education sector (+ personal circumstances).

I am committing myself to it this year to iron out overseen issues.

More to come. I’ll share the whole system soon.

  4. Guten Morgen!

  5. I’ve been reading “Building a Second Brain” by Tiago Forte via my Kindle. I’ve been following him on YouTube and have adopted his PARA method. Moved all my notes from Evernote to Apple Notes earlier this year and just learned that read.google.com will show me all my highlights from Kindle books. Cool! Reviewing and moving these highlights to my second Brain now. #BASB #productivity #organizedmayhem

  6. Connect your thoughts with the Twos App. ✌️ Write things down before you forget with notes, tasks, reminders, linking and an awesome community.

Did you Twos app has a graph view called universe?

It lets you see how your lists are connected. Build your Second Brain with ease.

  8. I wrote a somewhat ungenerous, but ultimately honest review of reading Tiago Forte's How to Build a Second Brain bookwyrm.social/user/mlte/comm #BASB #zettelkasten #PKM

  9. Experience the power of interconnected 🔗 thinking with the combination of the second brain and the Zettelkasten Method.

💡 Discover hidden connections, bridge gaps in knowledge, and generate innovative ideas that propel you forward. #BASB #Zettelkasten #pkm

  10. “Simplified, #BASB is a source material feeder system for project-oriented self-organization. The #Zettelkasten Method, on the other hand, is a method for processing knowledge.”

  11. @publicvoit @brunoarine Not sure if you're arguing for these things (which are good points) in the correct discussion. The #BASB approach, more or less, depends on e.g. WIP project folders. Not long-term filing.

  17. 3. in stands for (C)apture, (O)rganize, (D)istill and (Express). All my knowledge I capture into through capture templates. This allows quick capturing of thoughts and ideas and will put it into my "inbox" of thoughts, which is just a tag in . Creating a few templates for your regular use cases already helps a lot. 18. @credmp Yes, often :D, me too!

I dunno that I am organized (or disciplined?) enough to follow someone else's acronym like PARA, CODE, or ACCESS.

But so far, nothing like that has yet worked for me. I keep trying things but I kind of have my own SHIT (Stuff here 'n there). When I see enough of the same type of things I try to pile them near each other and build something that funnels those similar things into those piles automatically.

    This is the way.

  19. Ever think about building a second brain with ? I use and to do just that. Stick around to learn just how I do it!

  20. I don't think I've posted about it anywhere else yet, so I'll mention it now.

I'm diving back into as my PKM of choice. It felt like most of the other apps today, evn if they support plaint text as a backend, have so much web tech sandwiched in between it was hard to actually change anything... and change is middle name.

It's funny because before I took Tiago's class the first time, I was on , but I ventured through several others before coming back.

  22. @daviddelven Are you familiar with #BaSB / #PARA #CODE ?

I believe checking "areas" and "projects" in the CODE workflow are similar to this.

  23. While not entirely certain... i think I've stumbled across something important:

Most people do work using other peoples' applications which don't necessarily map 1:1 to their domain. In my case: I code, but also do a fair amount of product-manager style work. I want to be as productive in my job as when I'm pure coding.

'm making an editor (using #deno, #codemirror) which is super minimal, but is extensible through react components.

Imagine obsidian but open source. #basb #secondbrain

  24. What apps do you use to take digital notes and connect interesting stuff?

    My choice is now #notion notion.so .

My notes tend to be top down and highly structured. I love to embed photos and drawings. And with Notion I can easily create structures. I am using the Android app as well as the website.

One of my projects is a roundtrip through Scotland and it is so cool to share my findings and get feedback from the family.

  25. Before I encountered #PKM principles (#BASB and #LYT), my information consumption rate and forgetting rate were neck and neck, so improvements in actually knowing stuff were slow.

Two years in, situation improving! Every day #Obsidian brings to light cool ideas I enthusiastically recorded days/weeks/months/years ago that would otherwise have fallen completely down the memory hole. 🧠🕳

Being reminded is almost as much fun as encountering the idea in the first place! 🎉🤓

  29. Hello, #PKM.social!

I'm so glad to join your neighborhood, moving in from Fosstodon.org. Fosstodon is a lovely and well-run instance, but #PKM is what lights me up most these days.

Plus many of you PKM.socialites feel like familiar friends from my #LYT Workshop and #BASB Foundation adventures. ☺️

  33. Wrote a 2200-word blog post today!

    How?

    Easy 👇

    1. Used Jasper.ai to sketch an outline and built the skeleton of the article.

    2. Added additional content from additional desk research, notes from my second brain in Obsidian and following up on ideas raised by Jasper.

    3. Rewrote the whole thing in my own words.

    4. Optimised the text for SEO / Google search results

    5. Uploaded to WordPress and published 🥳

    My takeaway:

I strongly believe we should be teaching students how to use technology to write rather than penalising them for working with tools commonly used in industry.

You still need foundational knowledge to create, evaluate, and craft writing, even if you initially use AI to create it.
