Adaptec AAR-1430SA Firmware Download
https://blog.sengotta.net/adaptec-aar-1430sa-firmware-download/
It seems that Adaptec / Microsemi stopped offering Firmware downloads for their old hardware like the Adaptec AAR-1430SA Raid controller. Which is kind of sad because most of them just continue to work fine and you can find them for cheap on online marketplaces. I mean whats that for a bitch move. Hosting a sub 1 megabyte file could not be the Problem for a company like Mircosemi.
The only culprit is that older Firmware Versions do not support harddisks bigger than 2.2TB. Means if you get such a card and dont have the update file, you have a problem.
A nice person from Ukraine contacted my with that problem, so i dumped my bios from my card (after searching for a suitable afu.exe for two hours), but in the mean time the problem was solved because this person found an archive of the original firmware by itself in the depth of the web. This has the davantage that does not change the cards serial number just like my dump would do.
So now i can offer you the download of this Firmware and driver archive so anyone who gets such a card in the future could update it, and use ist.
Simply use a FreeDOS boot drive for that (but dont use Unetbootin its outdated).

@nulleric well, I just had a quick google search and I found #Adaptec documentation for #ASPI.
So I'm wondering if I could interface that using #OpenWatcom and a simple text UI...
I've never done low level #SCSI programming, but I should have an Adaptec card somewhere and I could rip out my #BlueSCSI out of my mac...
Should be an interesting little project,, but I don't know when I might find some time for that... -

Elder #retrocomputing enthusiasts, share your tribal knowledge...
I just got an #Adaptec PCI #SCSI interface card - if I want to connect an internal SCSI hard drive, will I still need a terminator? And if so, when I search SCSI terminators all I see are the external style... should I be using different search terms for internal terminators? Or am I wrong about something...

Hello #fediverse

OK question. I had to install Windows 10 (2004) for my brother's new server. Installed is an Adaptec 6805E and 5x 16 TB Seagate Exos. I made a software raid under Linux but after every reboot the drove is completely empty or Windows sets the volume offline. Windows logs aren't helpful.
Has anyone came across anything like this? The Adaptec recognizes all drives and they are configured as JBOD. Guess I have to get there next weekend and debug.
